Jessica Lowndes, '90210' Star, Releases 'I Wish I Was Gay' Music Video

Jessica Lowndes

From Katy Perry to eliminated "X Factor" contestant Simone Battle, gay themes are quickly becoming a ubiquitous element of contemporary pop music.

Now "90210" actress Jessica Lowndes takes that trend to the next level with her single "I Wish I Was Gay." In the song's video, which debuted this week, Lowndes -- wearing a sexy corset and Liza Minnelli-esque top hat -- struts through a burlesque routine before getting revenge on an unfaithful boyfriend by shaving his legs with a straight razor, straddling him and covering his face in lipstick.

"I wish I was gay, I wish I could see how to escape those boys, they always treat me the same...well, girls just don't behave that way," Lowndes, who plays Adrianna Tate-Duncan on the CW series, sings in the retro-sounding pop rock track, which recalls Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" melodically as well.

Still, aside from a few mildly flirtatious dance moves with female backup dancers, Lowndes' same-sex "desires" aren't explored further in the clip. And judging from the look on her boyfriend's face, we're not too sure he was appropriately punished.

Does no one covet a monogamous heterosexual and committed relationship? Or is it just all this suggestive, sick stuff? Our loving and forgiving Savious does not condone homosexuality for any reason; our Bible makes that clear. Read Romans 1:26-27.

More like she wishes she was relevant. No one knows who she is.

Bad song, bad video, typical below mediocre pop music trying to "mean something," be edgy, and get attention by playing on the gay issue. Check out real artists who write songs that are true reflections on life such as Antony and the Johnsons.

It's stuff like this that turns gay individuals into a gigantic stereotype.
But you guys seem fine with that.

Whatever.

Ok, I'll try again. "I wish I was gay" is not about lesbians. It's not about anything gay at all. It's a barely "naughty", slightly B&D tinged play for male - um - "consumption".

And the Katy Perry song is the definition of an insult. Her accusation is a list of everything she hates about a man, and then the punch line she equates it with "gay". Let's all construct a straw man of hateful characteristics and then call it "gay". This helps who?

I didn't get the same message. I understood her "message" as she wishes she wasn't attracted to guys as the guys she is attracted to tend to cheat. The problem then lies with the fact she's attracted to guys who are not men.

I also realize it's a song, not a biography.

If this is meant to be LGBT empowering (which I doubt) it missed by a country mile. Relationships between women are every bit as complex, confusing, infuriating, incredible or whatever descriptive term you want as relationships between men and women.

Women are not the Borg, we do not share a single mind and do not automatically have insight and understanding in to one another. In fact, it almost feels as if she is denying women unique personalities, as they are all submissive to the "sisterhood".

I am sorely tempted to add an accusation of misogyny to the misandry claims stated in this thread.

I used to feel this way, but I realized that girls aren't necessarily better companions just because they have different genitalia. This is just another song to promote misandry and stereotype males (and women too), and I do not support that as a self-proclaimed feminist.

Well honey, get your best girlfiend and just go downtown with her.

Ah yes, because relationships between same-sex couples aren't "real" relationships so they don't experience the same complicated emotions that hetero couples do... so of course it would be so much easier to not have a real relationship and just be gay! #fail

Agreed. I'm not even gay and I'm offended by this song. People should stop using homosexuality as a selling point for their songs etc.

Is it bad that I do wish she was gay? hahaha
