Jon Stewart Rips Rick Perry Debate Oops: 'Romney Wins, We're Calling It Tonight' (VIDEO)

Rick Perry

It's no surprise that the topic of discussion on Thursday night's "Daily Show" was Wednesday night's CNBC debate in Michigan -- specifically, Rick Perry's astonishing gaffe.

"Romney wins! We're calling it tonight," is how Jon Stewart read Perry's debate performance, which started with a "brain turd" and ended with an unbearable "Oops." Although, that's not quite the four letter word Stewart would have gone with.

Before Stewart got to the comedy meat on the bone that was Perry's gaffe, he took the time to back up his prediction that Romney would win by looking at how all the other candidates performed. Between Herman Cain calling Nancy Pelosi a "princess," Newt Gingrich's less than pleasant demeanor, Bachmann's recent irrelevance and Ron Paul's quirks, the only contenders left to beat Mitt Romney are two guys who Stewart compared to the lesser Baldwin brothers.

To sum it all up, It's looking good for Romney. And no one is more responsible for making Romney look better than Perry's minute-long stammer fest on live TV after trying to name three government agencies. Before ripping into it, Stewart took a moment to acknowledge just how spectacular it really was:

"A comedian can spend his whole life digging through the comedy mines for sound bites he can use to sustain his family," Stewart said. "And then Rick Perry gives you 53 seconds that can change a man's life."

Where does Stewart even begin? Perry's fellow candidates attempting to help/confuse him? The look on Perry's face when he realizes he's not going to remember? Watch the clip above (or on "The Daily Show" website) to see which part of it inspired Stewart the most.

Someone on the video says "Oh my1" when Perry couldn't come up with the third in the end before the "OOPS".

That made me laugh more than anything.

I'm still betting that a white knight named Sarah will ride in after New Hampshire and sweep up the nomination. Republican voters have shown often enough they do not want Mitt no matter what.

Jon KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK in describing the Republican Presidential Field. Anyone missing his show on Thursday, I urge you to go to Comedy Central, Daily Show on the web to look at it. I have never laughed so hard in my life. It was funny folks, but OH SO TRUE.

The Republicans don't have a BENCH. All of the Media Talk about President Obama's demise at the hands of these folks is also laughable.

Jon Stewart, SNL, every late night comedian, they don't even have to write the comedy material, the republican candidates are doing it for them. I felt for Ron Paul as he was so embarrassed for Perry, he is trying to feed him the answers, but honestly, this is pure embarrassing for the republicans who yet again put all their faith behind the top candidate who then flops!

We all know it's going to be Romney and for that I feel for America.

Please don't insinuate that this was Rick Perry's "Howard Dean moment". That's insulting and a bit premature. There is still a lot of time left in this campaign and I fully expect that either 1) He will say or do something much more hilarious, 2) One of the other candidates running will say or do something equally or more simple and make us totally forget this or 3) Umm....uh....oops.

Jon Stewart should have plenty of material for next week's shows after tonight's debate.

Republican comedy material, you can't make this stuff up. All of us democrats have been talking about this for months now, what a great popcorn show we would be having, and in no way could I have predicted the republicans would be this hilarious and this stupid.

Hey now... I think the GOP is doing something very good here...

Look at all the Developmentally Challenged people they have participating in
their debates...

Who says the GOP isn't inclusive...

Perry's brains were destroyed by his drinking too much. Perry was not wained from college drinking culture. His parents should have confronted him. Now he is being made funny by others.

He went from being the special kid in the class to being the special candidate in the primaries.
