Rick Perry Campaign Ad Explains Debate Flub On 'Conan' (VIDEO)

First Posted: 11/11/11 10:53 AM ET Updated: 11/11/11 10:55 AM ET

When Rick Perry couldn't remember the name of the third governmental agency he intended to cut, most declared the campaign over. But Conan revealed that Perry was only being consistent, as evidenced by this "campaign ad" that Perry put out before his infamous debate gaffe.

Check out the clip, as it's hilarious, timely and... uh, another thing, you know... oops.

I would vote for Rick Perry before living through another 4 years of Obama.

But, but, isn't he the most "Reaganesque." of the bunch. Isn't that the holy grail of the Republicans, find another charming genial dupe, just like Reagan?

The GOP debate has confirmed what we've all been thinking:
Rick Perry is stupider than George W. Bush.

Rick. Tut, tut. Don't talk. Just stand there and look pretty.

Well there is that predilection for pink ties and there are those persistent rumors.

Well I have to give Perry credit for making the most out of his brain fart the other day. As there was no way to run away from it, the best thing to do is to just laugh at himself and make a joke out of it, which is what he's been doing on late night TV. Ronald Reagan deflated criticism about his age in the same way back in the election of 1980. He started cracking jokes about how old he was, as when he once quoted Thomas Jefferson and then said, "And ever since he told me that......" It worked and age stopped being an issue in the election.

You're right that Perry didn't have too many choices about what to do and is handling it as best he can, but as for deflating criticism, I doubt that's going to be the case. His Wednesday night meltdown was the latest in a string of poor debate performances, not a single isolated incident. If anything, this latest flub served to confirm that he's not Presidential material. Remember people expect the person in the White House to represent our nation on the world stage, and not be a fumbling embarrasment.

Also, age is still an issue. Why do you think people viewed John McCain's pick of Sarah Palin for VP as a major liability to his 2008 campaign? Many worried she would become President due to McCain being unable to complete his term due to age and poor health.

Age should be a issue not only for those running for president but also for the corrupt, dysfunctional U S Congress. You have to exhibit a level of cognitive functioning and psychological fitness to serve in the military and in multiple law enforcement agencies but we have no such requirements for those in Washington.
