Dakota, Elle Fanning Cover W's December Issue: A Look Back At The Stylish Pair (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 11/13/2011 5:08 pm Updated: 11/13/2011 5:20 pm

Looks like Mary-Kate and Ashley may have some competition in the "Most Stylish Sisters" department.

Although the Olsen twins were recently crowned Vogue's "Best Dressed," Dakota and Elle Fanning star on W's December cover dripping with high-fashion glamour.

Shot by Mario Sorrenti and styled by Lori Goldstein, the sisters are shown bathing in the warm glow of their young but rising superstardom. The end-of-the-year cover, after all, caps off a successful 12 months for the siblings.

17-year-old Dakota is deftly transitioning from child star into a young adult actress with roles in "Twilight" and "The Runaways."

Meanwhile, 13-year-old Elle earned accolades for her role in "Somewhere"... and immediately nabbed the title of Fashion's Newest Darling, with prime seating at the best fashion shows and an ad campaign.

Yet Elle and Dakota weren't always so sleek and stylish -- before their rise to fame, the Fanning girls were just, well, little girls, albeit absolutely adorable ones. Take a look below at the Fannings' evolution from grinning tykes to style stars.

I have run into Elle, and each time she has been genuinely excited to hear "Hey, I liked Super 8" or , Hey, there you are again . Just shopping at the market with her mom. Super normal, happy type of a person.

They are sooo cute. They look like two loving sisters, no jealousy drama apparent!!

I think this cover is really elegant. There is nothing wrong with this. They are wearing clothes appropriate for their age and not posing provocatively like that Jenner kid. The only thing I don't like about this cover is how much makeup they are wearing. I'm sure they were airbrushed but I doubt they are trying to make them look thinner or airbrushing wrinkles and at least they look like themselves.

They seem like two young girls with their head screwed on straight. Dakota isn't in clubs- she's in college. I hope they stay level-headed as they get older- specifically Elle since she's so young.

Dakota was amazing in the series Taken about aliens (with a bit part for Elle with the dolphin) and Elle simply made the movie Super 8 with her performance. But wow! Don't they grow up quickly. They are very talented actresses and I hope they have a long career still ahead of them.

"...into a young adult actress with roles in..."

I'm not so sure that came out quite right.

Are you out of your mind?

I suggest you get some help. It seems you have some repressed sexual issues.

They're beautiful adolescents, and they were darling little girls. There's something about a huge little girl grin that's just heartwarming. It's fairly widely reported that these girls are also smart as can be and well mannered. Somewhere in the background, mom and dad Fanning have done a good job managing and balancing early fame--at least so far. Let's hope they continue to mature into happy, well balanced adults.

It seems to me, that things have gone too far, all in the name of beauty. My husband came home with a magazine which he found truly disgusting.

A naked girl was sitting against the headboard of a bed, hair falling across her eyes, a purple boa around her neck, SHE IS 11 YEARS OLD. As I have commented before, my best friend works for a top designer so I've done all the parties, runways, clothes etc. I'm sorry but I watched with my own eyes little girls being given champagne as their hair was being done.

My friends and I did it all as well, the limo's, openings, premiers, designer parties etc. We all had untouched gorgeous bodies, we all had fabulous clothes, we were all in our early 20's, we were all educated, I never did a drug in my life. I'm sorry, I adore fashion and all the things that go with it. I DO NOT like little girls robbed their childhood, subjected to behaviors that are unacceptable and being conned by the bling that lasts about 5 minutes.

thank you, and I appreciate your commentary, whether others grok it or not. It just seems no one remarks about pimpin' parents anymore------notwithstanding the Spears, Lohans, Cyrus, and, yes, the Fannings----

I got into a confrontation the other day regarding that trampmother of Lindsey Lohan, living through her daughter. That child and she is a child is going straight to the place Amy Winehouse, because of the pressure put on them.

A whole post just so you could let your ego show the whole world how much "morally" superior you are.

Bravo.

I have no idea what you are talking about ? My only concern is that these very young girls should be protected.

Is it that you like young girls ? Anyone who bashes someone else because they believe children need to be protected has a morality problem of their own.
