'Muppets' Movie Premiere: Kermit & Miss Piggy Arrive In Style (PHOTOS)

Muppets Premiere

First Posted: 11/13/11 09:45 AM ET Updated: 11/13/11 11:44 AM ET

As the guests of honor and featured attraction, the Muppets made a grand entrance befitting their legendary star status... and their inability to power their own legs.

In yet another effort to hype up the release of the franchise's grand comeback film, Disney went all out on Saturday night, throwing a premiere event that included a star-studded green carpet. Kermit, Miss Piggy and the gang arrived in the finest of auto luxury, with limos and convertibles carrying them past adoring fans and hungry photographers. Even for a crew that is used to massive public appearances -- Kermit, after all, serves as a balloon in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade -- it was a special event befitting the public excitement over the film.

Jason Segel, who co-wrote and stars in the film, took plenty of photos with his on-screen girlfriend, Amy Adams, who shined as she greeted fans. Rashida Jones, who plays a role in the film, also walked the carpet, as did Segel's "How I Met Your Mother" co-stars Alyson Hannigan and Neil Patrick Harris, the latter of whom makes a cameo in the film.

I'm surprised there have been no comments about Amy Adams' exposed shoulder while standing next to children's characters from the religious right.

The two best characters are Statler and Waldorf, the guys in the balcony.

I loved the Muppets when I was kid, I remember watching the Ed Sullivan Show, always hoping they would do a bit at the end.

Just an FYI: Frank Oz - long-time voice, heart, and soul of Miss Piggy - turned down the offer of this film, as he was dissatisfied with the script because he felt that the classic characters weren't "respected".

What's your source?

Frank Oz, currently almost 70-years-old, retired from performing any of the Muppet characters in 2000 as he wanted to focus on his family on his own directing career, among other things. A performer named Eric Jacboson (http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Eric_Jacobson) took over and has been Missy Piggy, Fozzie, etc. ever since.

Chris Cooper plays the villain: a Texas oilman up to unethical activities to make himself a few more bucks.

Cue the outrage from Fox Snooze.
