Adriana Lima: Victoria's Secret Diet Rumors Are A 'Misunderstanding'

The Huffington Post

Adriana Lima wasn't too pleased to hear that reports of the extreme diet Victoria's Secret Angels must adopt in order to prep for the annual fashion show were swirling around the media.

The Telegraph wrote in an article that Lima testified to being on a pre-show nine-day liquid diet consisting of protein shakes and egg powder, after which she was banned from drinking water for 12 hours leading up to the show. They also reported that Lima worked out twice a day for the three weeks before.

However, Adriana is insisting that the details of the "crazy diet" are just a "misunderstanding." She spoke with E! Canada to set the record straight. She even showed E! Canada her piece of coffee cake prior to the show, saying, “I have my Starbucks coffee right there… it was a misunderstanding.”

Like anyone whose body is her source of income -- or who poses in her skivvies for all to see -- the model says she's conscious of her figure. She admits, “You can’t eat everything, of course… I eat healthy and work out a lot.”

The new mom also hopes to set a good example for others, saying, “Those teenagers out there, don’t go starving yourself or only drinking liquids. Don’t do that please!”

We're glad Adriana is trying to be a healthy role model, and we're relieved to hear those extreme diet rumors were one big confusion.

I tried the Kim Kardashian diet, but it only lasted 72 days.

haterade has a lot of calories.

Please. Everyone knows that agencies will drop you if you admit you're starving yourself. I'm sure every single one of these girls short of a few naturally skinny freaks was on a "juice fast" before this show. Just like every actress is before an awards show.

Yeah, a misunderstanding. Maybe I also misunderstood the other brain-dead model advizing all girls to save a dollar a day to buy a pair of Loboutins.

Does anyone ever complain about fighters cutting weight before a fight? Do they complain about football players eating 10,000 calories a day so they can be big? With America getting fatter by the year maybe more people need to follow just a little of what these women are doing.

well you do have a point. I think every sport has its downfall. No I don't think it's healthy for football players to eat 10,000 calories a day. I hope that's just you giving a caloric estimate but I doubt they eat that much. Certain positions in football require you to be built differently than other players but they are also very active.

I still disagree with Adriana's diet regimen.

I love these articles. It's full of insightful commentary on how some woman should "eat a sandwich" posted by the same people who would hiss and scratch anyone who dared say anything about an unhealthily overweight woman.

The hypocrisy is cute. I guess it makes people feel good about themselves that they're doing the "right kind" of judging of how someone looks or eats. On the plus side the people they tell to "eat a sandwich" look ridiculously good so don't care about the comments.

Modeling especially in underwear is kinda like bodybuilding or boxing. One cuts before the show. One also needs to understand that these women have the genetics to be in that shape. Not everyone is going to attain that. Of course there are those who do not live healthy because they are trying to attain the impossible (genetics) and learn from misinformed friends etc... how to 'get skinny' and media has made trying to be like the Vic Models something to achieve. Books anyone?... I digress... I know this b/c i was a male model in my early to mid 20's and am now a personal trainer. I was ripped during that time but it was not b/c of trying to be healthy long term. But these top models are not struggling and are quite savvy and intelligent and have the genetics to boot. I hope this perspective helps.. Best!

I get what you are saying here but modelling has been associated with eating disorder and this is why perhaps Adrianna had to clarify her statement. Bodybuilding is seen more as a sport and sure they bulk. cut dehydrate themselves befor a show but they are built differently than models. You can't get those muscles without eating a ton of food. These models are thin because they likely eat very little and work out a lot to keep in shape.

What amazes me is how quickly they bounce back from pregnancy and they parade around in their underwear so average women can think this is achievable. Yes genetics play a role here but when a model makes a comment about her routine to prepare for a show, this does not translate the same way to young girls. I highly doubt what she said was not true. Her eating a coffe cake on tv means nothing to me now if she was shown eating the same cake the day of the show then i might actually believe her.

I remember girls just eating celery soup and cigarettes while i was in Milan and it didn't do them any good b/c their body was in 'emergency mode' and the second they ate something real the body held on. SO be sure to eat something healthy as soon as you get up. to "Break-the-Fast" Kind Bar, Lara Bar, Banana. I've been into slow cooker meals which you can take on the road easily. I ca go on and on. Hope this helps. :))

whatever, I doubt that her diet description is that much of an exaggeration. You have to have an extreme and conscientious diet to have a body like that at 30 and after a baby. Nobody was eating coffee cake before the show... cripes.

If by disgusting you mean "the hottest women to ever walk the planet", then yes, i agree with you.

Adriana looks good after having a baby. All that breast feeding has increased her bust size.

Why are models/actresses automatically considered "role models"??

poor girl shouldn't have to explain herself. body builders, actors, athletes... they all have extreme diets at times. just because she is a model people freak out... the truth is that a body builder has almost exactly the same diet in the weeks leading up to a competition.
