American Education Week Kicks Off With Secretary Duncan's #AskArne Twitter Town Hall

WATCH LIVE Today: #AskArne Twitter Town Hall

To kick-start American Education Week, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will host a Twitter town hall today at 5 p.m. EST. John Merrow, education correspondent for PBS NewsHour and president of Learning Matters, will moderate the discussion.

Duncan joined National Education Association President Dennis Van Roekel at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va. this morning in recognition of American Education Week.

"America's students need all of us -- educators, parents, students, elected officials and community leaders -- working together and investing in their schools," Van Roekel said Monday. "The path to the American dream still runs through America's public schools. American Education Week is a time to commit ourselves to providing great public schools so all students can pursue the American Dream."

The Twitter town hall will be streamed live on the Education Department's ustream channel, and above, and questions can be directed to Duncan by using the hashtag #AskArne on Twitter before and during the event.
