Jamie Pierre Dead: Ski Legend Dies In Avalanche Near Snowbird, Utah

Professional skier Jamie Pierre died in an avalanche on Sunday near the unopened Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort in Utah.

Pierre was reportedly snowboarding with a companion when an avalanche took the pair over a cliff. Pierre's injuries proved fatal while his friend was miraculously unharmed.

According to TheSkiChannel.com, the Snowbird area had accumulated two feet of snow in the previous two days, also triggering other avalanches.

Pierre had garnered international attention for his fearless style and set a world record with a 255-foot cliff jump on Freds Mountain at Grand Targhee in Wyoming.

According to the resort's website, Snowbird is scheduled to open for the season on November 19.
