Here Come The Brides: Kristen Henderson And Sarah Ellis Marry -- Part 2 (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 11/15/11 03:24 AM ET Updated: 11/15/11 10:55 AM ET

On Nov. 14, we brought you Part 1 of "Here Come The Brides"--a three-part original video series telling the story of lesbian couple's difficult journey to the wedding they looked forward to for so long.

In Part 2 (above), Kristen and Sarah recall two of the major milestones on their path to the altar -- domestic partnership, the value of which they question, and motherhood, which brought them as close as possible to the family they envisioned for themselves. Sarah and Kristen first chronicled how they became parents -- -- in vitro for Sarah, artificial insemination for Kristen, same donor -- in their book "Times Two: Two Women in Love and the Happy Family They Made," but here they talk about how their dreams of motherhood actually delayed their pursuit of marriage.

Once the couple's children, Thomas and Kate, were born, the only thing missing in their lives was the right to marry in their home state of New York.

Tomorrow look for the third and final video in this series, where we follow Kristen and Sarah from the historic June 24th vote in the New York State Senate to a long-awaited evening just a few weeks ago.

If we were all gay, we would become extinct. It just goes against nature.

In vitro is expensive.
They should have gone to bed with Elton John. It would have saved lots of money.

Yikes, you go around telling people in committed relationships to sleep around? Shame on you.
12:15 PM on 11/16/2011
But if they hook up with a man it would mean nothing to either one of them. It would only be for convenience (to get pregnant).
Know what I'm sayin'?

What jumped out at me in the commentary above was this:

**Kristen and Sarah recall two of the major milestones on their path to the altar -- domestic partnership, the value of which they question, and motherhood, which brought them as close as possible to the family they envisioned for themselves. Sarah and Kristen first chronicled how they became parents -- -- in vitro for Sarah, artificial insemination for Kristen, same donor **

These two women have put in some time, homework and soul-searching before their actually wedding occurred. If opposite-sex couples would do the same, maybe we wouldn't have such a high divorce rate.

Congratulations, ladies, and may all your troubles be little ones.

Why is this ok, but a man with three wives is not?

Why is there so much left wing bias and discrimination in the world?

To answer your question - Because the law regarding contractual obligations between two people is well developed and understood. When you add a third party or more, you need a lot of jurisprudence to understand how exactly those people relate to one another, what rights and/or obligations they have.

To illustrate. We understand a relationship that is person A + B

What about person X + Y + Z? Is there a legal framework regarding all the aspects of the relationships? Do we understand XY, XZ and YZ? How do we remove one or more person from that relationship? What if X marries Y and then Z, but then Y and Z want to remove X? How is that done?

I have no personal objection to people in polyamorous relationships. It wouldn't be my choice, but so long as they are consenting adults it is up to them. But marriage has its foundation in law first and foremost and the law does not exist to recognise other relationships. If people wish to change that, they had better get to work on it as it isn't going to evolve by itself (given that law is very much a mutable entity).

Does that answer your question? Or did you show up with a narrative in mind and don't wish to be shaken from it?

No, I have not made unfounded assumptions as per your post above. Legal references are in my response, pending moderation.

If an only child has three parents that is already a situation where the next of kin issue arises.

Also, plural marriage is common in many countries all over the planet. Sharia law governs many marital disputes and accommodates situations where there are multiple wives.

Lawsuits are already making their way through the courts in the US to overturn the ban on plural marriage. As long as everyone is of age, what business is it of yours or the government's what people do in their homes.....remember that (Lawrence v. Texas)?

The same argument applies.

Shame on them. Where do these people get such warped notions? Marriage is only for a man and a woman. Period. End of story. Why does the liberal extremisist media keep promoteing such perverse things pretending it is mainstream in our society. Its not mainstream nor even exceptable to the vast majority on decent sane Americans. God Bless America.

Marriage used to be for white people only and then some people got the "warped notion" that it should include people of color. Then it was for people of the same race only until some people got the "warped notion" that people of different races should be able to marry each other. Marriage used to mean a woman was property, but we took care of that "warped notion," too.

What exactly is normal? Society constantly changes, people are all very different, and I'm not sure where you get off dictating what is normal and what is not.

1. The Bible does not address the modern understanding of homosexuality so "it's not what the bible says" is an inaccurate statement.

2. What is gross is subjective. Not everyone has archaic thinking like you.

3. Who cares what your interpretation of the Bible is anyway. We use the Constitution as our guide for rule of law.

I'd like to say congrats to the happy couple, and may they have a long and happy marriage. I'm so happy for them that they're finally becoming the family they envisioned.

Congratulations, ladies!

I understand the urge to express one's opinion, but one should also realize that it IS an opinion. Judgment couched in blanket statements masquerading as fact diminish both the person posting the hate and the people about whom they post.
05:32 AM on 11/16/2011
Strange, maybe because it is not the norm, immoral....I don't think so. What is so immoral about love? I find your judgement of two people that love one another more offensive than two people of the same sex being married.
06:05 AM on 11/16/2011
look even love can be abberant. Attraction between same sex is NOT normal so what they "LOVE" may be a sick relationaship right to start. Innies were never meant to go with innies and outies were never meant to go with outies. Couldn'r be mre simple.

God says it is wrong...and he never changes he is the same yesterday, today and forever...so no matter what society says. if God turns from them after they die and says i know you not. We just need to pray for them and as any lost soul out there in sin. We are all born in sin.

You speak of that which you do not understand. You underestimate that which you cannot comprehend. God truly loves you but you disregard this love. The Savoir longs to embrace you, but you judge Him by the standards of man. God's wisom is considered folly by man's standards yet it is man's wisdom that cannot be compared to that of the Almighty's. Yet, the Holy Spirit can touch the most stubborn heart. Lord bless you and lead you in the path of truth. Take care, my friend.
