Herman Cain: Henry Kissinger Rejected My Offer To Be Secretary Of State [UPDATED]

First Posted: 11/15/2011 1:23 pm Updated: 11/15/2011 3:31 pm

GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain asked 88-year-old Henry Kissinger to serve in his hypothetical administration as secretary of state, he told reporters in a recent interview. Kissinger said thanks, but no thanks.

In an editorial interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that has provided potentially damaging highlights in the form of Cain's controversial support for public workers' collective bargaining rights and his extensive bumbling on a question about U.S. foreign policy in Libya, the former Godfather's Pizza CEO also answered questions about how he'd fill his administration if he were to win the presidency.

"Dr. Kissinger turned my offer down to be secretary of state. He said he's perfectly happy doing what he's doing," Cain said, before rattling off some other names that he'd been mulling as potential cabinet picks. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton, and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) were among the names he listed, though he wouldn't clarify which posts he'd like them to fill.

"My administration will have a majority of business people, as well as some seasoned officeholders who are not afraid to challenge the status quo," Cain said of the general qualities he was looking for in his choices.

Cain and his staffers reportedly convened with Kissinger in New York earlier this month to discuss foreign policy, a topic that has repeatedly complicated his quest for the White House.

During that meeting, Cain got a small boost from Kissinger, who called the smoking part of their famous viral campaign ad "brilliant."

UPDATE:

Cain's campaign says he wasn't being literal about asking Kissinger. Below, a tweet from Washington Post blog The Fix.

The Fix
Cain spokesman says Cain did not actually ask Kissinger to be his Secretary of State.

Henry Kissinger-New World Order / Zionist / War Criminal Extraordinaire.
Herman Cain- New World Order Sock Puppet / Zionist / War Monger.
What's the difference?
Women do not reject Kissinger's advances.
Women run screaming from Cain.
However...my dog would bite either of them if they were in my home. How do I know? He barks at them when they're on TV!..but he ignores the Mailman. Yes, my dog is smarter than Neocons-he knows enough to crap outside!

I don't always agree with Dr. Kissinger but I would have thought he had become delusional if he had said yes. I doubt Herman Cain based on his Libyan interview could understand the nuances that Dr. Kissinger would be recommending. After all, trying to explain foreign policy in pizza metaphors might challenge anyone. Time for Herman to join Sarah as a TV pundit.

You see how out of touch this man is? He's got his nose so far up the 1% bum, he is completely clueless as to how hated Henry Kissinger is among Americans.

Don't know whether to laugh, cry or shake in your shoes! Kissinger? Really? Why not just call on God to resurrect Einstein so he can serve? His "MY cabinet will have ..."! It's a shame this man's intellect is so totally overwhelmed by his ego. He is the most ego-driven, me-oriented politician I've ever seen! At least W laughed at himself knowing he wasn't the brightest bulb on the tree! This guy would unbotton his collar to answer nature's call rather than admit he couldn't tell his rearend from a teakettle! The clueless kind seems to be the most dangerous. Power without wisdom is deadly, but power with neither wisdom nor intelligence is worse. But the worse? Add to it rampant Bible-thumping and blatant hypocrisy! We'd be dead before the ink dried on the inaugural menu!
