'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' Footage Released: Rooney Mara Is One Tough Lady

First Posted: 11/15/11 01:32 PM ET Updated: 11/15/11 03:32 PM ET

Everything that's been released for David Fincher's upcoming "The Girl with the Dragon" has seemed to highlight Lisebeth Salander's impossible toughness.

In Entertainment Weekly, Fincher recalled offering the title role to Rooney Mara, saying "You're going to be emaciated, you have to be naked, you have to get raped [on screen], get pierced, smoke cigarettes, ride a motorcycle."

And despite the tall order, every clip does somehow up the badass ante, including this most recent footage.

Take a look at the fully transformed Mara shrug off a painful tattoo, punch someone on an escalator, threaten Daniel Craig and show off her scary-good skills.

Is it December 21 yet?

Does every action/thriller/horror movie these days have the same music just as the title comes up? What the heck?

The trailer of David Fincher's upcoming movie The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo with Rooney Mara
as Lisebeth Salander's looks intriguing. I also saw the original movie and agree that Noomi Rapace
was incredible as Lisebeth. It was the original Swedish version of the movie which made me want
to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and in fact the whole trilogy. I definitely want to see this
new version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, not to compare it with the original, but to see if Rooney
Mara portrays a believable Lisabeth Salander. I so enjoyed reading the trilogy by Stieg Larson.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Columbia Pictures' three-picture adaptation of Stieg Larsson's literary blockbuster The Millennium Trilogy.

Looking forward to it.

Better than what? Better than a trailer for a movie that hasn't been released yet?

I think you're jumping the gun, somewhat.

Better than what? Better then American movie making. I will admit the decibel level will be higher and I'm sure more money was spent on explosions.

i saw the original movie ... and just from the trailer you can tell this is going to suck ... it will just such louder and harder.

I fully expect to enjoy the new film as much as I did the Swedish version. Maybe one Lisbeth will be better than the other, I don't care. I won't take it personally. I don't there's anything sacred in any of this.

Damn you, HP! Every clip you put up here makes me even more angry that there is still more than a month left before I can see this film!

I think the swedish films had good acting, but it was shot in such a boring and dry way. I look foward to Fincher bringing back some of the suspense and drama that the books had. Fincher is great at creating mood, like in Zodiac. Perfect director for this story.

copycat - I'm just sayin'

i thought the way it was shot was subtle and very tense. American films are always made with idiots in mind so they completely lack subtlety and nuance, not to mention they have to overtly pander to every group, contain product placements. The original movie was so good it is just stealing to try to clone it for the American audience ... just see the original.

As a die-hard Lisbeth Salander fan,I have to say the actress here fits the character in the book more than the Swedish films did. She's tiny, wants nothing to do with people, fearless, and wicked smart.

I will see this film.

Also looks like a freak. This must be how people like Bombshell McGee see themselves, like, so edgy.

I've decided to give it a chance.

It simply cannot beat the original. Daniel Craig is too good looking for the part.

I completely disagree. How can Blomkvist bed so many women so easily if he isn't good looking? The swedish films cut out some of his relationships. I think the swedish films had good acting, but it was shot in such a boring and dry way. I look foward to Fincher bringing back some of the suspense and drama that the books had.
