Zuccotti Park Eviction Set To 'New York, New York' (VIDEO)

Zuccotti Park

First Posted: 11/16/11 06:08 PM ET Updated: 11/16/11 06:32 PM ET

Filmmaker Casey Neistat aimed his camera at the shocking midnight raid on Zuccotti Park early Tuesday morning, and for the most sardonic effect set the images to New York's official anthem, "New York, New York."

Neistat ended up filming for 18 hours after the start of the raid, and stopped documenting once they reopened the park. "The police presence was overwhelming," he said, "more than I've ever seen- more than during the blackout, more than the days after September 11th."

The footage, days later, is still pretty arresting. Neistat even witnessed Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez being hauled away. But coupled with the romanticized version of New York at its best (or in movies) the stark reality of this clash becomes even more disappointing.

I am in complete awe of Casey's work. I have copied and pasted the url and emailed it to family and friends. It is such an in your face, dare you to look away, picture of what this country has come to and where we are heading. The most important place to occupy might be our own brains. We need to take back our own thought processes, our own opinions and our own reactions to this historic period in our country's, (is it still ours?), evolution.

So you think that college students holding debts of $30,000 (or more) for their educations don't want to work?

Are you truly as ignorant as you sound? Apparently the meaning of this movement went zing zoom right over your head!

I thought the parts where the police are marching to the Nelson Riddle orchestra was priceless....but the end....where the kid with the flag gets stomped by the storm trooper NYPD guy is unbelievable...just unbelievable.

I know...it is unbelieveable..the amount of restraint these brave men and women of the NYPD showed.

Yes it IS that bad and where is our President to show support for OUR people?

There was no shortage of pretty speeches coming from him on behalf of the people of Libya... but for us?

His silence is a huge slap in the face to ALL Americans (well except for the 1% that is). The real irony is that the 'right' STILL tries to label him as an uber liberal socialist, blah, blah, blah.

THIS IS A WORDWIDE MOVEMENT, And the seeds have been planted.
The only problem is the National Media will not cover it unless it gets violent.
There are people waiting in the wings for more back-up to this movement.
When did all of a sudden the Govn't think that Americans are on Drugs or Terrorists.
When actually they spend billions chasing after only a handful of people.
You have to admire these people for what they stand for. The Corruption is Worldwide.

Mayor Bloomberg and NYPD cannot stop the movement. OWS actions do not depend upon having a physical presence in Zuccotti Park.

The 99% Declaration is taking action with a National General Assembly on July 4, 2012 in Philadelphia.

Join us and help us reform the political system and get money out of politics!

What do you think?
02:42 PM on 11/17/2011
Yes, many have taken leaves of absence from work. Two people yesterday were supposed to go to interviews the next day but... well you know. But please, go ahead, come up with more pithy quotes and blame those pesky kids. After all, it's their fault that there are a paltry number of jobs out there.

Big Money Talks Too Much...OCCUPY!
05:07 PM on 11/18/2011
Yes we have. I've sent out thousands at this point only to have recruiters call me and tell me if I was currently working my resume would be perfect but since I've been out of work since Jan/09 no one will hire me. Degree, skills, professionalism yet told if you're not currently employed don't bother to apply SO WE DECIDED TO OCCUPY!! We occupy because employers prefer high rates of unemployment because they keep the payroll to themselves and work the thinned out staff to death. Employers can undermine wages, undermine bargaining rights and since they're not paying payroll taxes to cash starved local/nat'l govt's they have the upper hand in terms of tax cuts and deregulation of their industries. They bully their workforce into submission with fear of being fired and now are able to make people formally quit and work off the books thus ushering in an age where the shadow work force begins. We're supposed to just sit there with no income, watching as the too expensive internet goes out smack in the middle of the 45 minute electronic job application!!!!
There are more of us in this situation and you ain't seen 'nothin' yet.
09:29 PM on 11/18/2011
Listen Mochaview, I realize that many are out of work with no prospects, frustration, getiing the run around, etc... Trust me. I am no big fan of employers, or big buisness.I n my company it's the same as you mentioned. Poeple tow the line in fear of losing there job and employers know it.But that has always been the way of the world except for very brief periods of growth n prosperity when the worker has the advantage. And your probably right. It's gonna get worse. But I just dont think occupying will make them mend thier ways. They have no insentive to have a sudden appiphany and care about the little guy. They just dont have any skin in the game yet. I belive occupy is well intended but a two pronged approach would be more effective, in my opinion. Its polititians and big business that need to be confronted, and they need to see that they can suffer consiquences as well. I wish you luck and i hope it goes well for you!
