Andrej Pejic: Out Magazine's Stylemaker Of The Year! (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 11/17/11 04:41 PM ET Updated: 11/17/11 04:57 PM ET

The Out 100 covers are, well, out! And we are uber happy to report that the cover featuring Andrej Pejic, the magazine's "Stylemaker of the Year," is one of the most gorgeous pictures we've ever seen of him.

Announced earlier this month, Andrej's honor caps off a red letter year, one that included his first-ever beauty spread, playing Marilyn Monroe, walking the Jean Paul Gaultier men's show in fur and meeting the Queen.

But his biggest moment, we think, is in this month's issue of Out, where Andrej is given an ideal platform to discuss -- and simplify -- all the complex ways the media describes him. As a male model with a feminine look and the ability to wear a dress as easily as a suit, Pejic says:

"I have to work twice as hard to be taken as seriously as the top girls. I understand that it will take time for me to prove that I'm actually a good model once you look past the media hype and the uniqueness of my looks. But hey, I'm not the first that has had to fight."

The main thing he has to fight is onlookers' constant attempts to define him:

"Define, refine, constrict, package, and sell... No thank you. I would like to live in a world where your gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and, above all, financial status didn't affect the opportunities you are given in life, the way you're treated by others, and your overall freedom. In a world like that, I wouldn't be given such a complex definition."

Amen. We're totally thrilled to see Andrej get a spot in Out's biggest issue of the year, which also features covers with Kathy Griffin, Larry Kramer and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. But when the covers are arranged side by side, as they were designed to be, you see that Andrej is the star at the center of the family.

We can't imagine a more blushing bride.

Check out the covers as well as the mag's editorial shot of Pejic below and read Out's story here.

An Observation... I absolutely agree with what he says about living in such a world, I just find it interesting that Race was not in the list...
Besides gender (but then he himself is demonstrating that this may no longer be always true) your race is one of the first things people see and judge, not your wallet. I am sure that the fact that he is blonde and blue eyes (and otherwise genetically blessed with the features and characteristics o' the day) helps in his breaking barriers. Not Hating just Cerebrating... http://mybodymyimage.com

Stunning to be sure, though it reminds me of watching an very old nterview with Gia Carangi. There's something vacant about him here.

One senses that Mr Pejic is relishing in his role as the modern equivalent of the theatrical androgynous doyen first brought to the fore with David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust character adaptions before the artist back in 1974 reiterated on stage after a concert he gave that it would be the last time that he would play the role of ZIggy as he feared his persona had been overshadowed by his alter ego. In the end Mr Bowie was able to re invent himself time and time again, whilst all the while hinting at his love affair with the androgynous. It seems in this respect Mr Pejic is fashion’s answer to a cultural vacuum that had existed until now as well a barometer of the new role plays that boys and men can now go and adapt now that the media has chosen to validate the ambidextrous themes that men can play (after all if a woman can aspire to a man’s world, why not the other way round?). Or has it?

He reminds me of a young Candy Darling...who was a beauty in her day!....

Only Candy Darling was a little more articulate. But, perhaps we should blame the interviewer for such a horrible interview. It didn't seem like he knew his subject. Don't ask a fashion model what he or she has to say to effeminate boys in a small town if you don't already know that they will have something clear, concise, and inspirational to say. I roll my eyes. But, I love Andrej!

Andrej's beauty can just about stop your heart, but it's his intelligence, wit and just plain good sense that truly set him apart in his current career. Such an intriguing person, and quite an inspiration in being so uncompromisingly himself.

As is my wont, I was dozing in the barber chair the other day while the "new" girl was cutting. She's only been there a few years. Before I knew it, she had trimmed my eyebrows, although I have told her often enough to leave them alone. She said she forgot, and that she thought they needed it. The regular guy would have known better. So I've grown my beard out some to distract from the change to bushy-less (?) eyebrows.

He is a true beauty. We need more men to show their innate femininity and grace.

Oh, I love Adrej Pejic...he is so sexy and appealing. What a gorgeous man. He is interesting, versatile, and complex.

I'm a straight woman but I think it would be fun to go out on a date with him while he was dressed in full woman's regalia. I think that at the very least, we'd have a lovely dinner somewhere and lots of brilliant conversation...and we'd definitely be the coolest couple in the room.

If you're ever in Austin, Andrej...

Cleverly photographed, looks like a girl. Scroll down the photo until you just see him from the chin down and you can see it's a male. But I have to admit, he is beautiful.

Wow-- brilliant and lovely. I was impressed with his acknowledgement of those who have gone before with this, "But hey, I'm not the first that has had to fight." Many women of color have had to struggle and still do, and I love that he's conscious of it.

The second quote took it to another level of compassionate analysis though: "I would like to live in a world where your gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and, above all, financial status didn't affect the opportunities you are given in life, the way you're treated by others, and your overall freedom."

Thank you Andre, for being all that you are.
