Occupy ICE Camps Out In Front Of Immigration And Customs Enforcement Office In San Diego

First Posted: 11/18/11 03:30 PM ET Updated: 11/18/11 03:30 PM ET

"Stop deporting workers! Stop deporting workers!," protestors chanted outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement offices in San Diego Yesterday.

A California janitor's union, joined by immigration activists and workers, rallied in the plaza in front of a Federal building which houses San Diego's ICE offices as part of a movement they call Occupy ICE or Occupy La Migra. La Migra refers to border patrol and immigration officials in Spanish.

Holding picket signs and setting up tents, protesters equated America's corporate greed with ICE's deportation of undocumented Latino workers.

Two weeks ago, companies employing members of the same janitorial union received audit notices for I-9 forms for all of the workers, AOL Latino reports. Sandra Diaz, one of the occupiers, told AOL Latino that the union considered this a direct attack against Latino community.

Mike Garcia, the President of Justice for Janitors, says their message is in line with Occupy Wall Street because ICE's actions are motivated by corporate greed.

"We are fed up and tired of ICE and their rogue behavior targeting well paid immigrant jobs sites and hard working immigrant workers and families," he said in a statement released on Thursday.

"ICE is doing what the 1% corporate real estate industry wants: using immigration laws to recycle well paid janitors in the hopes of taking back gains in pay and benefits our union has won."

ICE is one of the few organizations in the US whose sole purpose is to protect the US, these people are protesting them, and THEY are made out to be the heroes? Toss the bums into the river and let them swim back.

Shouldn't the first line read..."Stop deporting illegals! Stop deporting illegals!"?

Note to SEIU ~ have only "documented" SEIU members camped out at Occupy ICE

The "undocumented" SEIU members camping out at Occupy ICE, may decrease your membership dues cash flow

Cash in Point ~

U.S.C. 8 § 1357 : US Code - Section 1357: Powers of immigration officers and employees

(a) Powers without warrant
Any officer or employee of the Service authorized under
regulations prescribed by the Attorney General shall have power
without warrant -
(1) to interrogate any alien or person believed to be an alien
as to his right to be or to remain in the United States;
(2) to arrest any alien who in his presence or view is entering
or attempting to enter the United States in violation of any law
or regulation made in pursuance of law regulating the admission,
exclusion, expulsion, or removal of aliens, or to arrest any
alien in the United States, if he has reason to believe that the
alien so arrested is in the United States in violation of any
such law or regulation and is likely to escape before a warrant
can be obtained for his arrest, but the alien arrested shall be
taken without unnecessary delay for examination before an officer
of the Service having authority to examine aliens as to their
right to enter or remain in the United States;

Is this the SEIU, the illegal immigrants' union?

Sandra Diaz, you have part of this program right. It is a "direct attack", but the purpose of I-9 audits is to ferret out ILLEGAL immigrant Latinos. Sounds like that's what's happening and has you wound so tight, or am I misunderstanding your concern?

American voters must be among the most ignorant voters in the world. They keep voting in the same politicians who have been tag-team raping them for years.

They can't see that the same 1% who rape them are the same 1% who rape the undocumented.

Failed immigration is created and designed by the elite who run both governments. This is no different than failed mortgages, failed health care, loss of jobs, and our failing economy. This insidious 1% causes these failures because they profit at the expense of both the US taxpayers and the Mexican undocumented.

Are American voters really so propagandized that you can't figure out why not one single U.S. politician criticizes the Mexican government for anything? The undocumented would not come or stay here if that filthy, corrupt co-trading partner of the American elite would take care of its own citizens. The majority of undocumented care deeply about their families and would stay at home if they could make a decent living wage working with their families.

Its about bi-national drug profits, trade, oil, remittances, the privatization of prisons, cheap labor, weapons profit, NAFTA, and a 40 year long political platform that only sways back and forth, and never forward.

I invite OWS to embrace the undocumented who are protesting. Shame on both these pitiful governments who fail to address the immigration nightmare that they profit from.

Remember to pack a bag first.

You might be traveling one way.

No, you are not the 99%. You are the 100% illegal. ICE has been very kind to you. If you do not respect the laws of a sovereign nation and protest ICE, maybe you should self deport.
04:37 PM on 11/20/2011
I'm betting many of the people protesting are not illegal, considering they probably want to stay as far away from police and ICE officials as possible.

"On December 3, Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs, Nelson Peacock, responding to request from several U.S. Senators, including Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), wrote: “Our conservative estimate suggests that ICE would require a budget of more than $135 billion to apprehend, detain and remove the nation’s entire illegal immigrant population.”

http://www.examiner.com/immigration-reform-in-national/dhs-confirms-cheaper-to-deport-every-illegal-alien-than-allowing-them-to-stay#ixzz1YbZArCb6

$135 billion "one-time" cost to detect, detain & deport 11.2 million illegals to create existing jobs through vacancy ~ is CHEAPER for the U.S. Taxpayer, than the BHO's proposed $447 billion American Jobs Plan of 2011

A savings to the U.S. Taxpayer of $312 billion USD AND guaranteed 5 to 7 million jobs will be available to re-employ "some" of the 14 million U.S. Citizens out of work ~ instead of, creating an "iffy" 1.9 million jobs per BHO's proposal

14 million U.S. Citizens out of work in the USA, trying to feed, clothe, house & educate THEIR Children with NO JOBS

While 11.2 million illegals, in the USA illegally ~ are SCABBING U.S. jobs for half-price wages DEPRESSING the Wage Market for ALL U.S. Workers

It wouldn't cost a fraction of the estimates to clean up a lot of the immigration mess. Alabama has the illegal immigrant community on the move without the ability to deport anyone and none of the cost.

14 Million Americans out of work... 11 million ILLEGALS..Deport them and unemployment is solved.

Totally agree, but it's more like 7 million that actually work. It would still fix unemployment.

Totally agree, but deporting 7 million illegals, unauthorized to work in the USA will reduce the U.S. Unemployment Rate from 9.1% = 14 million U.S. Citizens out of work'

TO

7 million U.S. Citizens out of work in the USA = a U.S. Unemployment Rate of 4.6% U.S. Unemployment Rate

Interestingly ~ the same rate the U.S. Unemployment Rate was when the last "Backdoor Amnesty" was granted to illegals

ARREST THEM CHECK THEIR STATUS AND IF THEY ILLEGALS DEPORT THEM INMEDIATELY!!!!! NO IF NO AND'S NO BUT'S.
