Occupy Wall Street Two Month Anniversary In NYC: Beatings, Arrests And Speeches (VIDEOS)

First Posted: 11/18/11 12:25 PM ET   Updated: 11/18/11 12:42 PM ET

Occupy Wall Street celebrated its two month anniversary in New York City Thursday. The 'Day Of Action' began with an attempt to literally occupy Wall Street, and to disrupt the opening of the New York Stock Exchange. From there, protesters took their message to the subways, held a rally in Union Square, then marched to Foley Square where they held an even larger rally before marching across the Brooklyn Bridge.

When all was said and done, the NYPD had arrested over 300 protesters.

Here's some compelling footage of the beatings, speeches, arrests and demonstrations from an important day for the Occupy Wall Street movement.

I can't make it through this slideshow without letting Bob Dylan's "The Times They Are a Changing" ringing through my head, ignorance is a powerful tool of the monied elite, and to speak the truth in times of deceit is an act of revolution.

Whoa........wait a minute here. These OSW Woodstock wannabes are still around? This continues to be the biggest non-story joke that has hit the media in quite a long time.

COME IN OUT OF THE COLD AND OCCUPY THE FORECLOSURE COURTS !!!

In America, millions of people are losing their homes to foreclosure because of the illegal acts perpetrated by the big banks that caused the housing bubble that led to the mortgage meltdown, and the ultimate meltdown of the U.S. economy, which appears likely to spread to the world economy .. Meanwhile, the U.S. foreclosure courts are operating without scrutiny .. judges routinely rule in favor of the banks because it is more expedient (less work) for them, and because the banks pay to file the foreclosure complaints, and thus the banks pay the judges' salaries. Courts are routinely evicting families from their homes without proper due process being given to the homeowner as required by the U.S. constitution .. this is happening all across America .. in Florida, for instance, some judges have taken to holding foreclosure hearings in secret , which is a violation of the law, because courtrooms are required to be open to the public - check it out at this link:

OWS could be a meaningful movement. But, alas, it is nothing but a ridiculous distraction from actually dealing with the problems we are facing. The movement is supposedly the champion of the "99%." The problem, as I see it, is if they want to be the champion of the majority of people, then they have to get our support. Do they? No... They camp out, they don't shower, they form drum circles. They come across to average Americans, as hippies. They block subway entrances... Who rides the subway? The 99%. What they ought to do, is work harder to appeal to the 99%.

Well said. MLK never threw bottles at police, or tipped over food carts because they didn't give his group free food.

Eyewitness report from one of those arrested the night of the raid: Quick report back from the raid on Liberty Square (Zuccotti): police trashed the entire camp right in front of us. Stomped to death a tent full of new born puppies and threw out and entire library of books. They smashed our kitchen and trashed perfectly good food. Everyone's things were loaded into trash compacting garbage trucks, ensuring that even if you went to get your stuff back and it wasn't already sent to the dump, it was sure to be completely destroyed. People were beaten, some badly while being arrested. Of all the people occupying the park there was only a small group of us at the very end, some locked to each other by the neck with bike locks, and others soft locked together with our arms.

It's a joke that this is compared to the civil rights movement or the vietnam protests. These people do not lack rights. Their lives aren't on the line. Daily tweets is hardly something that must be "overcome."

I can compare taking off from work to the slave uprising in Rome. That doesn't mean it's the same thingl.

There are 9 million children without healthcare in the US today... I would suggest their lives are on the line every moment of every day.
Do you even have a clue of what the majority of Americans are going through?????
It is the value of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness that OWS stands united after 2 months and getting stronger... this movement is for the sick, the elderly, the poor, our veterans...
This country does not belong to the bloated wealthy elite... it is time to stand up against white collar crime and the Corporate Cartels...
And, as an artist myself, I find your claims of being an artist of any kind incredulous!

Well, then you're a bit narrow minded I'd say. You're conflating strife with the movement and what it stands for-- sort of -- kinda -- in a way.

What's the solution? You have to do more than wish and hope and stamp your feet. You have to create something viable. As an artist you should know that.
12:04 AM on 11/21/2011
you were only promised the pursuit of happiness...

it is hard for any child to not have insurance in the US today, so I call BS on your claim of 9 million, which is more of an indictment on their parents who knowingly brought them into this world unprepared...

to support OWS, while listing some of your reasons to support Occupy, begs the question: Why are you not in DC?

If you people had your way, what would this country be without Capitalism? Everything you are angry about in the Corporate World is being handled now with legislation that has already passed. Which is it? the distribution of wealth? or White-collar crime? it seems that you cannot discern between the two.

You can have wealth and attain wealthy without doing harm to poor or working class.

Your perceived attack on the 99% by the 1% seems more like a vendetta, to right the wrongs that you feel are behind your own misfortunes instead of assuming responsibility...

have you ever considered a trade that was more successful than being an artist? you can have both: one for your income, and the other as a hobby you can pursue in your spare time...

We are falling behind in technology because over 50% of the degrees earned last year were liberal arts degrees

hi Nelson,
Just curious, have you ever gone down to Zucotti Park and either watched a General Assembly take place or communicated with a Working Group whose message you either support or don't support? Your profile says you live in Manhattan.

Yes. And I think there's a misunderstanding on both sides. People mistake the intention with the execution. Since the message isn't presented well, there are those who don't take it seriously -- and the resentment, confusion and anger just worsens.

I see the comments about the OWS protesting at the wrong place. Should they be protesting congress? Have they made a difference?
For question ! the answer is that they are in the right place. This isn't a "what came first, the chicken or the egg?" question. The money came first from the people who wanted favorable legislation (or, in some cases, no legislation) so they could make their fortunes while damaging rhw lives of others. If the money wasn't there, there wouldn't be the problem. So, first steps first. Go to the money.
#2, have they made a difference. A resounding YES. While things haven't chaned (it's been 2 months) the conversation is now part of the global consciousness. Hopeully this will lead to a re-evaluation of how business is conducted and get the money out of politics.
For the nay-sayers my question is, Wht have you done to improve society lately?
12:07 AM on 11/21/2011
by your rationale, Washington came first...

Refer to the New Deal, and the Clinton presidency as the chickens

Sorry, try again. That would be the Reagan presidency and supply side economics, along with the lessening of regulations on the financial markes (started in the mid -80's). It is the money that corrupts. Stop the money and you get a handle on stopping the corruption.
Have a nice evening and thanks for playing " Millionaire"!!

There are more millionaires there than anywhere and 75 % of those with the highest amount of wealth on capital hill are the Democrats
In the top 10 on the hill 8 of the top 10 are Democrats.

I got a question for all those who say the poor are being abused and treated badly in this country.

Q: If you could be born and live in any country of your choice, but there is 1 caveot.
You have to be the poorest person in that country.
What country would you want to live in then where you could get the best life and oppertunities to not be poor?

Anwser: AMERICA !
Most of our poor have a roof over there head with 2 br's,
a car, electric, heat,TV,Cell Phones, and 60% have air conditioning, schooling and yet they are still considered poor. What other country could you be poor and have all this and have a chance to better yourself?

Statistics, please since you seem so well informed about America's poor. Poor is relative- you can't compare America's poor/working poor to day, people in Mumbai that's absurd.

It is relative because the poor in this country have better lives than the poor in any other country in the world.
