Jon Huntsman On SNL's Weekend Update Woos New Hampshire Voters (VIDEO)

First Posted: 11/20/11 07:35 AM ET Updated: 11/20/11 07:35 AM ET

If Jon Huntsman is running to be the most appealing GOP presidential candidate to liberals, he's already won.

As if his stance on evolution and climate change weren't enough, now he's made a self-aware SNL appearance where he proved he had a genuine sense of humor to boot. And of course, he has those daughters who are endlessly entertaining.

None of that will win him the nomination, but it's a journey, y'all.

ha ha

liberals always lke to tell conservatives who we should pick to be our nominee

last time we listened, and picked the reasonable (yet decidedly non-conservatives choice) john mc cain

now the liberals are saying we "should" pick Huntsman (he's the only "logical" choice)

as opposed to republicans picking the conservative they really want.

will the republicans win if  Read More...

Huntsman has one thing that every other GOP candidate lacks: A sense of humor.
04:50 PM on 11/21/2011
he also lacks a spine.

Bravely done, Mr. Huntsman.

I love how the Republican Party has moved so far to the right that Liberals, Progressives, and Democrats are supposed to be thrilled that one of them admits that evolution is real, and that climate change exists. SO this politician is anti-choice, pro Bush-tax cuts for the rich, BUT admits things that pretty much everyone with a brain admits are true? So he shows he's not a religious zealot, or bought and paid for 100% (but who knows to what percentage!) by the big oil/energy and the Koch brothers, and we're supposed to fall in love with him?

Get real.

Huntsman actually is a force to reckoned with...in 2016

maybe for the office of president of the mormon church.

Honestly, who needs SNL when the genuine article is doing such a great job at lampooning themselves. Which way is Libya?

A Republican with a 'tad' of comic timing... who'da thought? Actually I like Huntsman... he kinda reminds me of what Republicans used to be like before Clinton. They were actually reasonable most of the time. I miss those days.

Don't blame Clinton. Blame Newt, et al.

Honestly, if Huntsman is smart, he'll concentrate now on building an image as a legitimate conservative who does well with moderates. In 2016, he can run as the only legitimate conservative and maybe even win.

No, not really, To be a legintimate conservative right now, you have to believe that concreception is bad, not believe in science, and want to attack Iran... and flip flop on every issue as long as it gets you elected.

Huntsmans problem is that he actually does appeal to moderates and independants, which is the kiss of death in the republican party right now. He is the only canidate who could actually really give the president a run for his money with independents.

Which is why it seems the GOP seems to be obstructionist. If the economy goes to below 9% by the end of next year, the GOP is pretty sunk. As long as they an keep the economy down, they may just have a chance to win it, with someone like Romney...maybe.

Huntsman is a relatively moderate Republican but he is one of the holdouts on signing the No Tax Pledge. That is a guarantee that he is a marked man of Grover Norquist and his deep pocketed contributors. Norquist's Americans for Tax Reform generously supports candidates who sign his pledge and will eat-for-lunch anyone who doesn't. Huntsman doesn't have a chance and neither does the country if voters don't recognize the consequences of this influence on the GOP and its inability to compromise or negotiate. Within the GOP this No Tax crowd are like cannibals - doing in any opposition within the party.

Bill Maher was right when he said that Mr. Huntsman should abandon the impulse to "out RightWing" the rest of the clowns he's mired amongst and carve out the ground that is already uniquely his own. Why on Earth these candidates think the path to victory is to go FARTHER to the Right is beyond comprehension.

Mr. Huntsman needs to channel his inner Theodore Roosevelt, the last legitimate Conservative the Republican party has produced.

Theodore Roosevelt was a progressive. He had no time for conservatism. He bolted his own party because the conservative wing was taking it over (among other reasons). He broke the trusts/monopolies; he regulated industry; he promoted environmentalism..... I read your comment....with amusement.

Huntsman has come out in support of breaking up the big banks and reinstating something in the spirit of Glass Steagall (his WSJ op-ed). He's also come out for breaking up the oil monopolies. He supports a faster withdrawal in Afghanistan and defense budget cuts. His position on gay marriage is identical to our current DFL administration's. If progressives want to see Obama be pushed further to the left, since there will be no DFL primary challenger who could win, then they should hope for a Huntsman GOP nomination.

I like Huntsman, so don't take this the wrong way but.... Anyone else find it very disturbing that most upper tier politicians these days are also pretty adept at acting?? Makes me wonder, a lot!
05:44 PM on 11/20/2011
Adept at acting, yes. Improv, not so much.

Remember when the US had an actual actor who became the POTUS? Every conservative wants the mantle of Ronald Reagan. President Reagan's acting skills carried him a long way during his campaigns and his presidency. That's why the acting skills as opposed to leadership skills are so important to the conservative voters of US.
