Oskar, Blind Kitten, Plays With His First Toys (VIDEO)

First Posted: 11/21/11 06:02 PM ET Updated: 11/21/11 06:12 PM ET

Oskar the kitten was born without fully formed eyes, but the impairment hasn't stopped this playful cat from going about enjoying his life.

This heartwarming video features the kitty playing with some of his first toys. Oskar's owner points out that some of the balls have bells inside so he can locate them using the sounds they make. Confused by the object at first, Oskar soon gets the gist of his new toys and begins to play around just like any other kitten his age.

According to the cat's owner and YouTube user Mick12321kciM, "[Oskar's] blindness does not hold him back at all -- he can do pretty much everything that our 'normal' cat Klaus can do."

While Oskar might not need to rely on Klaus to get around, some blind animals often seek a little extra help. Take for example, a blind pup named Rhett and his companion, Scarlett. Rhett is blind, but he follows the sound of Scarlett's bell collar as a guide to find food and play.

Can't get enough of the playful kitten? Oskar's owner has posted several videos starring the blind cat and his sibling, Klaus, and you can check out photos of other kittens in our slideshow below:

The poor kitten at Battersea home for dogs and cats in London, has her collar on so tight, her neck has no room to grow. I'm surprised she's not choking.

almost brings tears to your eyes. cat is stricken blind, and still happy as can be playing with a few balls with bells in them. seeing that animal happy, when so many would have abused it, gave it away, had it euthanized... it just makes you feel good knowing the world isn't ALL bad.

my pit bull, Lulu, spent the last 4 years of her life blind after developing diabetes... she was every bit as active and full of life as when she was a puppy... our four legged friends can teach us SO MUCH about being human if we just pay attention.... dogs are so much better than people

Fanned. Agreed, but cats are pretty good, too.

Precious!

I have a little rescued Cocker Spaniel who at the age of seven is going blind. This video has given me just the lift I needed. Provided we don't change the geography of the house or yard, and always take Delta Belle for walks on a leash (she didn't need the leash previously because she is well trained to heel) she's good.

She follows her buddy (our Irish Setter) out the dog door and down the steps when she needs to go outside. She lets him know she needs to go out by putting her nose against the flap and making an "oof! off!" sound.

When an animal is blind, their hearing starts to compensate according to our vet. Animals accept their physical condition far better than do humans. This is certainly an inspiration for me as I get older.

There's another video of Oskar and a hair dryer. Too darn cute.

That was an incredibly touching video. Thank you to the wonderful family that adopted Oskar into their home. Wishing Oskar and his family many years of happiness together.

I work for a veterinary ophthalmologist, and see blind pets every day. They, unlike us, do not feel sorry for themselves. They accept their life as it is and move on! They are so resilient! And This little guy is lucky, his condition is not painful. I see so many pets struggle with painful conditions like uveitis and glaucoma, and eventually go blind. At least he never experienced discomfort! He will do just fine and live a full life! Stop feelings sorry for him, he is a happy kitty with loving owners!

I was given a rescue kitten whose eyes suddenly swelled shut due to herpes contracted in the birth canal.  Thanks to a Kitty Opthamologist she received great treatment and lived a good life for about 20 years.  Had another with a serious heart defect live to be 22; the last 12 with her own Kitty Kardiologist and daily meds.  I love vets specialists who help my furry babies, and I happily provide their retirement plan.

What a darling kitty, and thank you for adopting him!

My Brownie is sitting on my lap mesmerized by this video (I played it several times for him); he's missing a few bits and pieces but he's a silly, loving cat who loves to play.  His predecessor Snowball was deaf, and played hide and seek with me constantly.  (I'm a little handicapped as well, and they don't hold it against me...unless I'm feeding them in which case it's clearly cat abuse.)

Give the challenged and older cats a chance, and you'll get more love than you can imagine...I guarantee it.

I saw a video of a blind cat that had actually attacked an intruder who came in through a window. (real blood etc. was found where the cat latched on during a home invasion.)

I think Oskar will develop a real keen sense of hearing, smell, and distance that will help him overcome his handicap.

Other animals to develop relationships with might be a big boost for him. Lucky Kitty!

Actually there are a lot of them, I happen to be a cat fancier and no matter how many cat videos there are, it can't be enough.
