Part of what makes a Thanksgiving spread so comforting is the reliability of tradition--you can dream all week about the dishes you'll be served this Thursday and know you're likely to get your fix of cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes. But, with the help of Chicago's top chefs and foodies, your unconventional contribution could end up being a family favorite.

We rounded up 18 Chicago chefs, restaurants and food bloggers and asked them to get creative with the ingredients likely to be on any mid-November shopping list. Check out their creations, with recipes below, and throw your own into the mix in the comments.

We've seen cake in a jar and pie in a jar, so why not Thanksgiving in a jar? This recipe is perfect for leftovers, but you can also make it from scratch and have individual servings on Thanksgiving day. - Megan Owens & Nicole Mikuzis, Slash & Dine

Ingredients:
2 cans of cranberry sauce
leftover stuffing
leftover turkey
mashed potatoes
chives or green onions, finely chopped, for garnish
4 jars

Assembly:
Start with a layer of stuffing. Add cranberry sauce - we used the jellied kind so that we could slice it. Add turkey and keep layering until you get to the top. Add mashed potatoes to a pastry bag and pipe a swirl on top. You can also just spoon some on the top. Sprinkle with chives or green onions. Ready to serve.

Loved the article and all the yummy treats. I especially am a fan of corn pudding at Thanksgiving time. I really loved the Creamed Corn Panna Cotta and the Corn Creme Brulee. It's fun to pt corn into desserts. Check out my ( also in Chicago) take on a zesty and fun makeover of the plain green bean casserole. Much love and Happy FOODGASMIC Thanksgiving! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8H7gdQh-Ww
