Newt Gingrich made an astounding proposal last weekend in which he expressed the belief that America is ignoring an untapped labor resource: Children.
Calling child labor laws "truly stupid" on Friday at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, the GOP frontrunner du jour made the puzzling claim that he believes education reform could be enacted by getting rid of unionized custodial workers in poor schools and replace them with students aged 9-14.
"The kids would actually do work, they would have cash, they would have pride in the schools, they'd begin the process of rising." Foolproof, Newt!
If Newt thinks that children need to get to work and rid our country of those pesky unionized janitors, why not go all the way? We have a few suggestions of our own that we think Newt may enjoy. Using Gingrich Logic (be sure to check out next year's self-help book, "Gingrich Logic," available wherever political books are sold), here are 7 other union jobs that could be replaced by a kid workforce.
