The Huffington Post     First Posted: 11/19/10 03:09 PM ET   Updated: 11/22/11 05:50 PM ET

We've given you 10 great wine varietals to accompany your Thanksgiving dinner and shared the Thanksgiving wine picks of some top winemakers and experts, along with some recommendations for holiday digestifs, but what about beer?

To get some recommendations for special brews to take your Thanksgiving feast to another level, we sought the advice of Justin Philips of Beer Table in Brooklyn's Park Slope neighborhood. Check out his picks below and why he chose them, and follow Beer Table on Twitter to find out what beer Justin's tapping next.

Rodenbach Grand Cru

"Classic flemish sour that has sweetness and acidity. Think of balsamic vinegar with fruit juice and a malty undertone - it's really interesting. Pair with cranberry sauce or with the bird! It's really versatile with food."

Only one German beer, and you pick that one!? What the hell!!! That list reads like it's from someone who is not a beer drinker.

We're going to my sister-in-laws and taking some of my husband's home-brewed Carmel Amber Beer - a lovely beer, and some Perry Cider - a very exciting and unusual cider.

I'd vote for Lindemann's Kriek (black cherry) Lambic but it might be too late to buy it for Thanksgiving. After purchase, it's good to leave it set in the fridge for a week or so to let the sediment and never drink the beer to the last drop unless you own a toilet paper company.

When I was a kid, the Mendota Liquor store always had a sign out from: 3 cases of Buckhorn or Schells for $10.

A couple years ago I was in a liquor store here in MA and ran across Schells - being sold as a micro brew for $8 a six pack. I am not an economist or an investment counselor but it seems like I should have bought a couple more cases back in '72.

I am a big fan of Oskar Blues Dales' Pale Ale, but I will go American and have me plenty of Yeungling Lager.

Wow... that's a fantastic lineup. A lot of HP beer slideshows have had decent beers. These are all really great. Glad to see the seldom-seen Gose listed... brewers should use salt & coriander more often. The Southhampton Cuvee is a marvelous saison, nice for the start of the meal. Rodenbach Grand cru is a wonderful accompinament to, say, devilled eggs & olives; vinegar-y dishes are hard to pair with beer, but Flemish reds hold their own well. The very malty Gordon goes well with spicier dishes, for contrast.

Whoever selected these has a sophisticated beer palate.

These are really great beers that are available absolutely nowhere, so they do virtually no one any good. Thanks for the tease! Happy Thanksgiving

Sam Adams Cranberry Lambic is a has a great flavor and they usually brew it this time of year - Thanksgiving to New Years.

Oh my, SA Cranberry "Lambic" is probably my least favorite beer in the entire historical Sam Adams line-up. I didn't know they were still brewing it. I haven't seen it since the 90s.

A good beer enhances the flavor of even the worst cooked food.

Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving to you everyone in blogger land.

You know what's weird; hoe we take for granted the beers that are available locally. I like Labatt's Blue. But when I've had friends from the south, they don't even know it.

Labatt Blue . isn't that the Canadian version of Milwaukee's Best ?

I'm sure these are all fine beers and I love a lot of beers, wines, and whiskies from all over the world. But it seems somehow just wrong to not drink something American on Thanksgiving. I don't mean Bud or Coor of course. I wouldn't drink those on a dare. But there are plenty of awesome American micro-brews to choose from. I'll be enjoying a Berkshire Breweries Traditional Ale with my meal and afterwards, I'll fall asleep sipping a Dogfishhead 90 minute IPA.

Happy Thanksgiving!

ME me me! Not all the time, but lambics, flemished reds & browns, and assorted wild ales are wonderful, especially if you like foods like sauerkraut or pickled vegetables or fishes. It's hard to find any beer or wine to stand up to such flavors, but sour beers do a wonderful job.

I love a good dry, tart lambic as an apperitif before Thanksgiving meals--gueuze is my fave, but an acidic framboise, such as from Cantillon is great too. The post-fermentation sweetened ones like Lindemans shouldn't be ruled out either! During the meal, I tend to go for maltier beers (or tannic red wines). Afterwards, whatever you like... could be a light hefeweizen like Weihenstephan; or a heavy, very hoppy savoring beer like Dogfish Head 90 min.

Who cares any beer is good enough to get drunk, and ruin another family get together. Give me Bud lite and a good old fashioned drunk fight in the living room I'm good.

I'll see your generic beer and drunk fight in the living room, and raise you a cheap wine and obnoxiously awkward comment from grandma at the dinner table.

Here's to a great holiday weekend!

I save my beer-consumption for after I'm done cooking.

I like Bass Ale, Harp, San Miguel, Jamacian Red-Stripe, Spaten Optimator, Tetley's Stout, Bohemia (an underrated Mexican-brewed dark) or Moosehead...if I can afford it.
For domestic-brewed...Michelob, Rolling Rock, PBR, Genesee, or Blitz Blue-Boar Ale (if I can find Genesee or Blitz at BevMo).

This year, my beer will be Blitz Blue-Boar Ale (better than Olde English 800 or Steel Reserve, trust me!)
