LIVE TURKEYS NEW YORK THANKSGIVING 2011

Surely you've been Googling all about how to roast your turkey, planning a trip to the supermarket to pick up your prized bird in a plastic bag in a mound of other half-frozen birds. But there is a place in Brooklyn where you can meet your bird before eating it, and that is La Pera Brothers.

This live poultry market says that in the rush before Thanksgiving they usually sell 700-1,000 big birds. That's up from their weekly average...of 15.

The Daily News made an excellent video of their visit to La Pera Brothers. If you're not in the mood to visit such a market, you can only go to Staten Island and try catching one yourself.
