Occupy Wall Street Wikileaks Truck Confiscated, Possibly Lost By NYPD

Wikileaks Truck

First Posted: 11/23/11 10:00 AM ET Updated: 11/23/11 10:00 AM ET

Artist and Occupy Wall Streeter Clark Stoeckley's Wikileaks truck has been a fixture of the demonstration downtown since day one, often parked along the edge of Zuccotti Park and puzzling onlookers with its Wikileaks logo and "Top Secret Mobile Collection Unit" emblazoned across its side.

(Although not connected to WIkileaks in any way, Stoeckler has been driving the truck around all summer and filming his travels. Calling it "artivism," a hybrid of art and activism, he hopes his exploits will bring awareness to detention of Private First Class Bradley Manning.)

And now, thanks to the NYPD, the truck's gone missing!

Gawker reports Stoeckley was driving the truck early last Thursday morning when he was pulled over by police, not too far from Zuccotti Park, for having a crooked license plate and not using his lights while his windshield wipers were on.

After not consenting to a search of the vehicle, Stoeckley was arrested for Obstructing Governmental Administration. And when he contacted the towing company that was supposed to have the truck, they said they'd never seen it.

"I think this is over the NYPD's head," he told Gawker. "I want my truck back immediately. It was illegally taken from me and it is illegally being held from me. That is not courtesy, professionalism or respect."

He's currently working with the NYPD to locate the truck which he says also isn't at the city impound.

Stoeckley's lawyer tells Gawker he hopes his client wasn't arrested "unlawfully," simply for "refusing to consent to a search."

The NYPD was likely on edge Thursday as Occupy Wall Street protesters commenced a series of large rallies in celebration of the movement's two month anniversary.

They also had some practice that week confiscating, and promptly losing or destroying, protesters' possessions.

More than a week since the NYPD raided Zuccotti Park and evicted protesters, The Occupy Wall Street Library has yet to recover important Occupy documents and over 4,000 books-- and it's seeming less and less likely that the Department of Sanitation didn't just throw them away. The Occupy Wall Street Library is expected to hold a press conference Thursday to "address the destruction of the OWS People's Library by Mayor Michael Bloomberg during the 11/15 raid."

Those protesters looking to recover property from the raid must go to a DOS storage center on 12th Ave. and 57th street, where the press is not allowed inside,

One protester, Issac Wilder, still can't find a bag with over $5,000 in cash confiscated by police. Wilder also can't find the Freedom Tower, a device that provided wi-fi to the protest, and while inside the storage center, he took photos of laptops completely destroyed during the raid.

"To bring about peace in the world, to stop all wars, there must be a revolution in the individual, in you and me.
Economic revolution without this inward revolution is meaningless, for hunger is the result of the maladjustment of economic conditions produced by our psychological states - greed, envy, ill will and possessiveness. To put an end to sorrow, to hunger, to war, there must be a psychological revolution and few of us are willing to face that. We will discuss peace, plan legislation, create new leagues, the United Nations and so on and on; but we will not win peace because we will not give up our position, our authority, our money, our properties, our stupid lives.

To rely on others is utterly futile; others cannot bring us peace. No leader is going to give us peace, no government, no army, no country. What will bring peace is inward transformation which will lead to outward action.

Inward transformation is not isolation, is not a withdrawal from outward action. On the contrary, there can be right action only when there is right thinking and there is no right thinking when there is no self-knowledge. Without knowing yourself, there is no peace."

Daniel Ellsberg who was working for the government during the Viet Nam war also smuggled out papers and made them public. The Viet Nam war was a big opportunity for Wall Street to make money. It's all about the money in this country, and the people who suffer are the 99%. Joe MacDonald and The Fish recorded a wonerful song called Viet Nam. And it's still true today. Nothing in this country has changed. Except now under the Patriot Act, you can wire tap legally.
Watergate would be perfectly legal in 2011

Bloomberg must resign

Again, this is so reminiscent of 1969 and the police in the USA." Bloomie" Bloomberg should be held fiscally responsible for everything lost or destroyed. He wants to look like the leader of the NYPD Gestapo, and is doing well in that arena. Things are not right in NYcity and it is not because of OWS. I am finding all of this difficult to believe, especially the actions of the NYPD.

The Reagan Revolution

"The 1980’s were the triumph of upper America. It was a celebration of wealth and the political ascendancy of the richest third of the population. It was the glorification of capitalism, free markets and finance"

http://www.emayzine.com/lectures/1980S.htm

As a continuation of this "revolution from above" multinational corporations and their lobbyists have been conducting a hostile takeover of our courts and politicians at both the state and federal levels to subvert our laws and Constitution as well.

QUESTION: How can the Occupy movement be called "revolutionary" when they are merely trying to restore the economy and societal ideals that were expressed up and until the end of the Nixon administration. Never mind FDR, Kennedy or Johnson, Even "Tricky Dick" was on board with fair regulation - he brought us the EPA. Even Dick favored civil rights, .international programs like foreign aid, reciprocal trade, and collective security pacts.

Occupy is NOT revolutionary in any sense. I see a counter- revolution by true patriots!

Manning should be put away for the rest of his days. Gitmo would be a good spot.

I'm sure you're familiar with this quote?

"During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act." George Orwell.

Uh, it's quite "lawful" to refuse to consent to a search. If they've got no warrant and no probable cause, it doesn't mean they can just arrest you and seize your stuff anyway-the whole idea of the Fourth Amendment is that they CAN'T do things like that.

And if they had probable cause or a warrant, they wouldn't have asked.

The cops need probable cause to search a vehicle.
If they ask to search, then they don't have probable cause.
Refusing a search is not probable cause.

They just need to sue, sue, sue and sue some more the N.Y.P.D. and the city of N.Y. Maybe if the cost become so stagering they will start to reconize people have constitutional rights and there is a huge price to pay when you deny those rights. Every news person that was arrested should sue there pants off. If news people can cover full fledge wars I am positive they know how to cover protest.

Yes it is sad that we, as a nation, cry out to other countries to allow protesters to peacefully assemble. Yet, in the US we are facing so much violence that is totally unnecessary. I encourage each of you to take a stand in support of your first amendment rights, your family's and your friends'. We have waited so long, we can't afford to let this country fall any further. It is important we speak to our local governments, but first we need confirmation from the president. A simple statement that violations against first amendment rights are not tolerated. Please help us take a stand. Stand in solidarity with the American people.

No, that's the slang for contempt of the Constitution and US citizens.
