New soul singer Mayer Hawthorne says he will play his own halftime show, after losing a campaign to replace Nickelback as the act at the Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day game.
Angry Lions fans started a petition earlier this month when the canadian rock band Nickelback was announced as the halftime performance. "The Lions ought to think about their fans before choosing such an awful band to play at halftime," the petition read. It gathered 55,444 signatures on Change.org.
Nickelback responded to the outrage with a Funny or Die video earlier this week.
Ann Arbor native Hawthorne said he'd be interested in playing the halftime show, but the NFL stuck with its original choice.
So now Hawthorne has teamed with Rolling Stone to give his own, alternative performance on game day.
