New Year's Eve Ball Drop And Fireworks

The resort town of Gatlinburg's Space Needle is the place to be to ring in 2012 in this eastern Tennessee town. Since 1987, revelers have gathered at the base of the Space Needle to count down to the new year and watch the ball drop from the 407-foot steel structure. A midnight fireworks show choreographed to music dazzles attendees during the first moments of the new year. This free, family-friendly event also features music spun by a disc jockey and party favors to get attendees in the New Year's spirit. And during the day, the needle offers incredible panoramic views of the Great Smoky Mountains.

First Night Knoxville

Tennesseans can celebrate the new year and the arts together at First Night Knoxville, a family-friendly New Year's Eve event. Attendees can stroll through downtown Knoxville and enjoy a variety of cultural events, including live music, dancing and comedy shows with the purchase of a $15 button. Families can stop by the East Tennessee History Center for an afternoon children's festival that includes craft projects, face painting and balloon animals. The event concludes in downtown's Market Square District with a midnight countdown and laser show.

Bash On Broadway

Music fans can ring in the new year in Nashville at its annual Bash on Broadway, which features a live concert by a variety of country music artists. This free event, which takes place in the heart of the Music City, includes a “music note®” drop at midnight, presented by Grand Avenue. Revelers count down to the new year as the bigger-than-ever “music note®” drops from a structure of 115 feet. The event culminates in a fireworks spectacular with canons blasting confetti once the clock strikes midnight. Host Storme Warren, a Sirius XM Radio personality, will kick things off at 7 p.m. Revelers can continue the celebration at bars and restaurants surrounding the block-party location. The festivities may also include spillover fans from the day-before's major college-football game, the Music City Bowl, pitting together two teams, one from the SEC and one from the ACC.
