CAIRO -- An American film maker has told a colleague by phone that she was arrested by Egyptian police while documenting clashes in Cairo's Tahrir Square.

Jehane Nojaim's producer Karim Amer says she was detained and her camera was confiscated.

He said Wednesday he was separated from her after they both fled from tear gas.

Nojaim is an award-winning film maker of Egyptian ancestry, best known for her 2004 documentary "Control Room" about the pan-Arab news station, Al-Jazeera.

According to reports on Twitter, Nojaim is held at the Abidin police station in Cairo.

As protests in Cairo entered a sixth day on Thursday, Egypt's military rulers said that elections will be held as scheduled at the end of November. Egypt's Health Ministry said that 37 people have been killed in the clashes so far. The Egyptian rights group Elnadeem reports that at least 38 people have been killed. 2,000 demonstrators have been wounded.

Tear gas rains down on anti-government protesters Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, in Sitra, Bahrain, where clashes erupted during a procession marking the third day after the death of Ali Youssef Baddah, 16, who was struck and killed by a police vehicle. The teen's death heightened tensions ahead of Wednesday's planned release of a much-awaited international commission report on Bahrain's uprising. (AP)

Columnist Mona El Tahawey was also picked up by Ministry of Interior police (has since been released). She says the boys from the Ministry slapped her around and groped her. Hope Jehane has better luck and gets out soon. These animals have got to go. The people have to stay strong and make them go.

And Assad...it's your turn next!

Women ammounting to something is illegal in the Middle East. Wife and baby-maker is as far as you can go.

It is sad that in Egypt the situation is so much worse than in Tunisia, the army is determined not to lose power.

Funny....the middle east is going democratic and the US is going into the same type of dictatorships that used to rule the middle east.

Unbelievable comment, move to the middle east if things are so much better there. You watch too much MSNBC.

Maybe Stavo watches too much Fox News, or listens to Rush, they are more likely to claim the US is becoming a dictatorship under Obama, than MSNBC.

Going into a volatile political situation such as Cairo has been this week, "you puts your money down and you takes your chances".

Why would the Egyptian military fine Egyptian citizens for not voting? Doubt if it has anything to do with promoting democracy.

Compulsory voting is in place in many countries.......google.

Now that the celebrations are over, echos of Obama's speeches have faded and Mubarak is gone. Can't you just smell that fresh Arab spring in the air? More of the same from these dirbags, to come.
