Black Friday Wal-Mart Violence: Police Taser Man, Arrest Grandpa

First Posted: 11/25/11 04:56 PM ET Updated: 11/25/11 05:00 PM ET

If they're not pepper spraying each other or rioting over waffle makers, Black Friday customers are being tasered by cops and being violently arrested for shoplifting.

WAAY reports that cops said they had to use a stun gun to subdue belligerent customer Christopher Blake Pyron at a Wal-Mart in Florence, Ala.

From WAAY:

According to police, Pyron was stumbling and grabbing items and causing a scene in the busy store. An officer tried to get Pyron to calm down, and tried to take him somewhere less crowded. According to investigators, Pyron jerked away and swung at the officer. At that point, the officer grabbed his taser and shot Pyron, taking him to the ground.

Pyron was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to WAAY.

The arrest wasn't the only taser-aided cuffing of this holiday season. Miltord Patch reports that an officer used a stun gun to bring down a man involved in a scuffle at a Wal-Mart on Thursday night.

Then there's the case of the grandpa who was either the victim of a violent police mistake, or a shoplifter taken down with appropriate force, depending on who you ask.

MyFox Phoenix reports that witnesses said a young boy was trampled by bargain-hunting shoppers at a Buckeye, Ariz. Wal-Mart. In an effort to free up his hands so he could protect his grandson, witnesses told the station that the grandpa put a video game in his pants.

But police told a different story. They told MyFox that the man was trying to shoplift and when they tried to question him about the video game, he started "flailing his arms."

Police used a leg sweep to bring the man down. He hit his head and had to be treated at a local hospital, police told the station. He's charged with resisting arrest and shoplifting.

Those cops HAD to use the sweep maneuver once those arms started flailing! Wonder how they would react to the inflatable wacky waiving incredible flailing arm man? :)

Why were the cops so desperate to towel off that pool of blood on the floor? Then they cover the poor man's face so that we couldn't see the blood there either.

It's called preserving the crime scene :/

What I find interesting is that no one comments on the behavior of the crowd. Pushing, shoving, yelling, trying to be 'first'.

This is all CRAZY!!!!! Between the comments and what was done! Where is all of your holiday spirit? This man was obviously not out of the store and he was trying to protect his grandson. I have done things like this ( not in my pants but pockets and stuff) and I was never treated this way but until he physically LEAVES the store it's NOT shoplifting.
As far as middle class people being paranoid you people really have problems to think that! We basically make this country! I am not going to bad mouth everyones that has really nasty remarks, but just remember what this season is about! Not gifts, or seeing who we can nock over to get the last game, It is about family and kindness and charity. Not sitting on your phone texting to the person next to you to pass the gravy, or sitting in the living room watching tv. Our children will never know what the holidays are really ment for If people keep acting like this. I now lost 5 minutes out of my life that I cant get back to write somthing none of you will even care about!

You didn't loose 5 min. Unfortunately it's going to take a couple of BIG lawsuits after some people get killed for something to change. Even that will probably not help. They need to have more sales spread out over several months and a promise that the merchandise will be there the next sale if you miss that one. Then the 'crazy' people won't be around when the 'nice' people get there. Better yet, the stores post an ad. The first # of people that send a postcard get a ticket to go into the store during certain hours. Or group A goes Monday. Group B Tuesday, etc. I used to get up and go early. Now I take my time and have found just as good of a deal at the less popular stores. Or I just bake them some goodies.

He could have put that game in his rectum, but until he physically LEAVES the store it's NOT shoplifting.
Hope he sues the living feces out of Walmart and the local jack booted thugs.
They clearly appear to have earned it.

... to buy stuff that 1) will make them more stupid, 2) outsource their jobs to China, and 3) that soon will be donated to Goodwill.

Nicely done!

What happened to the woman who pepper sprayed. I bet the identity was not given out because she was here illegal and Walmart did not want to discourage a lot of their customer base.
This is the first time I have ever seen a person not named unless they were a minor.
If so, why was she out and can her parents be charged?
06:59 PM on 11/27/2011
You are truly an idiot. The Wal-Mart where the pepper-spray incident occurred was in Porter Ranch, a upper middle-class neighborhood called Porter Ranch. Illegals don't buy or carry pepper-spray. They leave that to the paranoid middle-class folks who are willing to camp for hours, sometimes days, just to get the latest video game.

You make an interesting point. The media does this all the time by using the term 'youths' when talking about black crime.

No the media would easily post a picture had it been someone black, even if the black person was not involved and that's no right either, of course people are not just people we are still segregated and racism is alive and strong.

How many more times do we have to get our heads bounced off the floor; metaphorically or literally, like the Grandfather in Arizona, before we all stand up and take this country back. Anyone reading this that does not agree that the Occupy Movement has a place is either blind or just plain ignorant. People Clamoring after Products produced in Malaysia or China because in order to be a supplier to Walmart no person making even half the minimum Wage in America can exist in your supply chain. If there is then the supplier can’t meet the price Walmart demands. Walmart is just one corporation and this is just one example. There are hundreds more where this came from. We are like sheep being led to the slaughter.

Notice how it's almost always a Walmart? There should be an IQ minimum for people to be out among the general public.

If that happened, how would most of the GOP's candidates get to their "debates?"

Target had a fatality. Man collapse on floor of Target and customers stepped over him or walked around him. Eventually, a nurse shopping started tending him until paramedics came. And then a shopper/employee was tired from all the shopping and drove her car into a canal.

No comment. I just don't know what to say anymore. Maybe that our law enforcement is getting a little out of control? Every time I'm out driving and I spot a cop, I panic a little bit...even when I'm not doing anything wrong. Why? Because I've been pulled over SO MANY TIMES for the most petty "offenses." Like I was once pulled over by one of our local small town cops for failing to yield to a pedestrian that was on the sidewalk that was "thinking" to cross the road but was waiting for traffic to clear. What is that? Since when does traffic stop for a pedestrian that's walking down the sidewalk? A little off topic, I know...but I'm trying to make a point.

I like to take my medicine pill with my morning coffee, but left it behind today(the bottle is huge) as I drove to the diner as I too was worried of being pulled over and having the police think it was ecstasy or some illegal drug as their cruisers are laying in wait on a lot of the streets I cross.. Its way too easy to be pulled over now days for whatever and have them launch the war on drugs, or war on terror, warrant and want searches and make a decision whether to arrest you. And if I complain to them about it they will only escalate things on me to find a reason to arrest me. I don't like that added stress just going about my business so I go out less and less. This reminds me of the old World War two stories of being stopped by the occupying army and checked for your papers and treated disdainfully like your the enemy. All I wanted was some eggs and potatoes and yet I have to be well aware of what can happen to me on the trip to get them.
