New York City Center Renovation: Watch A Timelapse Of The Center's Transformation (VIDEO)

Watch A Theater Transform In Timelapse Video

New York's City Center, one of the city's long-standing cultural institutions, recently underwent a $75 million renovation. The center, built in 1923, is home to the Encores! concert series, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and a host of other performing arts companies. It closed down for renovations in April of 2010 and opened just last month, with Mayor Bloomberg, Sarah Jessica Parker and Brian Williams on hand to christen it.

According to the site, the renovations include:

New and reconfigured seating in the main auditorium with significantly improved comfort and sightlines; enhanced front-of-house amenities, including a new, heated marquee on 55th Street; renovated lobbies and redesigned bars; additional restrooms; a new, sprung stage floor; an additional elevator; and upgraded backstage facilities.

Now, we have a glimpse of how the building was gutted and revived, with this time-lapse video. Watch City Center transform from an empty shell to a shiny new theater.
