Prince William Rescues Two Sailors From Sinking Carrier Ship In Irish Sea

Prince William Rescues Two Sailors

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 11/27/11 12:35 PM ET Updated: 11/27/11 12:50 PM ET

Prince William took part in a rescue mission after a cargo ship sank in the Irish Sea early Sunday morning, CNN reports.

Two of the crew were pulled to safety, however five still remain missing after one body was recovered, the British Coastguard confirmed to the BBC.

The two men were airlifted to safety by a four-man crew, which included the Duke of Cambridge -- second in line to the throne -- who is a Royal Air Force helicopter pilot, Fox News explains.

The coastguard received a mayday call at 2 a.m. local time from the Swanland cargo carrier ship located 20 miles northwest of the Llyn Peninsula, North Wales, after its hull cracked.

The ship, carrying eight people and 3,000 tons of limestone, capsized before rescue forces arrived, notes MSNBC.

"We know that at least some of them are wearing immersion suits and have strobe lighting with them, however sea conditions are challenging at best," Jim Green, a coastguard spokesman told News.com.au.

The British RAF, the Irish Coastguard and an Irish Naval ship are continuing to search for the missing five people.

Since Huffpost allowed my comment to be deleted by some other disgruntled poster, I will repost: Put him in a war zone, where many real hero's are today, and then post a story about him. Name recognition doesn't make one a hero.

Shame on you HP, because of your stupid, idiotic moderation policies.

The article doesn't say or even imply that he is a hero.

Good job to the entire rescue team!!! I will be praying for the missing 5 people that they are found alive and in good health. Good luck and many blessings to them. I know how difficult it is to rescue someone and to try to hurriedly rush to the aid of the missing persons. To the families of the missing, keep your faith and never lose hope.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE PUBLISHED DEC 2000...

Like many students, The Duke of Cambridge chose to have a gap year before beginning his university course in order to travel and gain a variety of new experiences.

He undertook a number of new activities during the year, including preparing for survival exercises with the Welsh Guards in Belize, working as a volunteer with Raleigh International in Chile, working on a dairy farm in the UK and visiting countries in Africa.

His stay in Belize involved sleeping in a hammock strung between trees, wearing jungle combats, hats and boots, and eating British Army rations.

In October, November and December 2000, The Duke visited Southern Chile, during 10 weeks as a volunteer with Raleigh International. He helped to construct walkways from log posts and taught English in local schools.

His Royal Highness said that the favourite part of his gap year was spent working as a farm labourer on a dairy farm in England with an hourly wage of £3.20, rising before dawn to milk cows and “performing mucky jobs” along with everyone else.

***This is just one of the many selfless acts Prince William has been involved in. Yes, he comes from privilege and has certain "duties" average American could never fathom, but William has followed in his mother's footsteps in regards to paying it forward.

The article never uses the word "hero". The front page headline writer is just trying to get more readers to click. It is the way this, and other, media designers are trained - to grab you with headlines. Not great journalism, but perhaps good capitalism.

The entire royal family is over paid. Stop sh1lling for the rich, they're not paying you to be so ignorant.

Speaking as someone who pays his wages, I don't mind at all. The royal family pay their way many times over in increased tourist revenue for the UK.

this is the dumbest, misleading title for this article!! They act like Prince William was out boating on his yacht and came across the capsized ship and rescued them himself. He's doing his job! He's a rescue helicopter pilot. It's like saying..."police officer stops crime". DUH!
