Princess Mary Of Denmark Wears One-Shoulder Dress In Australia (PHOTOS, POLL)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 11/27/11 05:40 PM ET   Updated: 11/27/11 05:41 PM ET

Princess Mary has looked lovely while in Australia on a royal tour with her husband, Prince Frederik of Denmark. Like any good Royal Tour, it's given us the chance to see all sorts of lovely sundresses, pantsuits and evening gowns..

Including this latest one. At a charity dinner in Melbourne on Saturday night, Princess Mary wore a one-shoulder, full-length gown in a grayish-blue hue that was flatteringly cinched in at the waist.

The gown strikes a similar note to Kate Middleton's Jenny Packham dress from a Remembrance Day ball at St. James's Palace. While Catherine's dress featured a looser fit at the top to match her unfussy hair, Princess Mary pulled both her hair and her waistline in for a more severe look.

Which version work the best? Tell us below.

Quick Poll

Who has the best gray dress?

Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge.

Princess Mary of Denmark.

Mary looks wonderful... the dress fits her body perfectly. Kate looks like an anorexic bodybuilder lately. No doubt that Kate is beautiful but she looks "harsh" in just skin and bones. I wish them both the best in their lives and hope they are happy. Everyone deserves happiness.

Imagine how good thousands of women around the world could look, if these 'royals' shared some of their wealth with them so they could have nice dresses, too?
07:03 AM on 02/23/2012
just a touch of bitterness. Are you blaming others for your misfortunes? I am sorry.

The Duchess of Cambridge has comfortable style, which I like, and this Grecian dress looks super comfy and chic on her.
02:29 PM on 11/28/2011
Even if it looks like the dressing is wearing her and is sweeping the floor?
08:30 PM on 11/28/2011
Geez, it looks like you go around and counter every opionion that does not agree with you. Yes, I prefer the Duchess of Cambridge style and dress than Mary. If you must ask about the sweeping of the dress, Mary's dress also swept the floor as well. I still stand by my opinion that the Duchess carries off her dress with more comfort and looks more chic than Mary.
08:39 PM on 11/28/2011
I agree. I think the dress is wearing her as well and the hemline is poor, it should have been a bit shorter.
12:31 PM on 11/28/2011
Catherine's dress is made to flow not hug like Mary's, and the Duchess wore it well. To me, the way Catherine's dress fits and flows resemble more of a Greek goddess than Mary's. Mary does not have the waistline to carry off this type of dress. I prefer Catherine's better.
02:31 PM on 11/28/2011
It looks to me that Mary carried off wearing that dress very well. The draping and fitting could not be more perfect, unlike Kate's gown.
08:07 AM on 11/29/2011
Sorry buddy, have to disagree. Kate's dress does her body shape no favours. Mary's dress is better shaped and shows off her body shape in much better light than Kate's.
12:22 PM on 11/28/2011
I think the one-shoulder look is better on Princess Mary. While the Duchess does have a tiny waist, her broader shoulders are accentuated not enhanced in this silhouette.
02:32 PM on 11/28/2011
Kate actually looks less feminine in that style dress because of her broad shoulders and small bust line. You are correct that it is not a good look for her.

The difference is Catherine hasn't had any children yet - her body is still that of a girl -- Mary has had multiple children - in fact I think she recently had twins.
09:13 AM on 11/28/2011
What does that have to do with Catherine wearing a poorly fitted gown and one that was not best suited for her supper thin figure? Nothing at all. The dress was not the best choice for her and it could have been fitted much better for her in any event.

Mary wears her dress better...although the dresses are not the same. Katherine's looks a little unfitted.
But William wins the best looking of all four!!! Dashing! No wonder Katherine is looking at him like he is a huge slice of hunk pie!

Kate's dress seems a tad too big for her. Catherine's dress fits better but it is too long.

Kate/Catherine is also a princess. Her Royal Highness Princess William Arthur Philip Louis, Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn, Baroness Carrickfergus.

It always amazes me how ready so many are to bend a knee to their so called betters.

All because some gonzo in the back pages of history was able to do in enough other gonzos to call himself a king. Royalty is based on two things--the elimination of your competition, and the repression of everyone else.

Enjoy.

Huh?? This is nothing more than a fashion matchup between 2 beautiful women, neither of whom were born into royalty. Mary's a dinki-di Aussie from Tassie and they don't come much more down-to-earth than that. Catherine is also a 'commoner'. Just pull your head in and admire their taste!

If they hadn't married into the socalled royal society, we wouldn't even be looking at them.

Just the one.

And you?

Or are you getting a little something for magically appearing on ANY board that has to do with the royal family?

It's beginning to look if that is the case...
10:27 PM on 11/27/2011
Mary was a Tasmanian real estate agent who was 'picked up' in a Sydney pub by the Prince of Denmark during the 2000 Olympic Games. She is a credit to Australia and her adopted Denmark.
And always looks good!

Oh, and is it just men, or does William's tux look a little tight?

Or is that the style now, and I just missed it? I don't really follow men's fashions.
08:03 AM on 11/29/2011
nope, no fashion there - it looks tight.
