The lucky canines of Manhattan's West Side will soon be receiving top notch treatment with the installment of a $6.5 million renovation to Tribeca's Hudson River Park in order to make room for what DNAinfo calls a "luxury dog run."
The new section is slated to open in 2013 and will feature an interactive water centerpiece, shade umbrellas for the furry to keep cool under, and colorful pavements designed to stimulate dog's colorblind eyes.
Chairman of the Waterfront Committee Bob Townley expressed his approval and said "It's going to be beautiful. It's an amazing park."
While some may be excited for the upscale renovations, many are concerned with spending money on what they view as frivolous expenditures. One community board member said he was "uncomfortable" with the idea because "money is tight these days."
Gawker was more blunt in its criticisms and said the park would surely "disgust everyone in New York."
Marc Boddewyn, vice president of design for the Hudson River Park Trust, defended the plans to Community Board 1's Waterfront Committee last week and insisted the money needed for the makeover was less expensive than other areas of the park. Boddewyn also added that the plan was years in the making.
