PETA Postage Stamps Feature 20 Famous Vegetarians (PHOTOS)

It might seem a little behind the times, but animal rights group PETA is bringing their message to your mailbox by releasing a postage stamp collection featuring the faces of famous vegetarians.

From Natalie Portman to Leonardo da Vinci and Paul McCartney, the animal rights organization has immortalized 20 famous meatless figures in an effort to show it's possible to get ahead in this world without eating meat.

"These are very influential people, and not everyone knows that these folks are vegetarian," PETA Vice-President Lisa Lange said, according to New York Daily News.

PETA has long fought for vegetarianism, writing on their site, "In the U.S., more than 42 million cows suffer and die for the meat and dairy industries every year."

This recent largely uncontroversial campaign isn't the end of PETA's tactics in their never-ending war to protect the rights of animals. Last week, PETA celebrated "Fur-Free Friday," asking many to refrain from buying fur. In the past, the organization has featured controversial campaigns portraying celebrities and activists nearly nude.

The new postage stamps may not turn as many heads as the group's request two weeks ago for Turkey, Texas to change its name to "Tofurky." Needless to say, that change seems unlikely.

That's too bad, Woody! I thought you had better sense than that! And Bryan Adams.. now I'll have to pitch your music! How disappointing!

I just don't understand how a person deserve special recognition because they are a "vegetarian?" It doesn't make them a better person or a worst person. This is just bizarre.

Having Pamela Anderson's face on a U.S. postage same is upsetting, to say the least. She is famous for being photographed naked, a sex tape and artificial breasts! Man, has it really come to THIS with the USPS? Sad, very sad.

I thought you had to be dead to be on a postage stamp. And why is an organization that supports terrorist organizations like the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) on a US Postage Stamp?

But not a vegetarian, only a man who refrained from meat from time to time because of a bad stomach.

I'm not going to claim my comment was hilarious but explaining it definitely kills it...She is a tramp, she has a tramp stamp (a tattoo on her lower back above her butt), and she's on a stamp.

Me too. On the on the hand famous vegetarians is as good a category as any of people we put on stamps. But on the other hand The PETA company is in reality an affluent life style support system for Ingrid Newkirk and her partner. Mother Teresa of the animals she isn't.
