George Michael Hospitalized: Christians For A Moral America Calls For Singer's Death In Light Of His 'Satanic Lifestyle'

First Posted: 11/29/11 11:08 AM ET   Updated: 11/30/11 12:12 PM ET

George Michael fans were stunned last week when the singer was admitted to an Austrian hospital with pneumonia and forced to postpone his tour indefinitely, but one right-wing organization had a much different reaction to the news.

After the Daily Mail reported that Michael's family and long-time partner Fadi Fawaz had gathered at his bedside in Vienna, Christians For A Moral America took to Twitter, claiming the singer "has AIDS" and calling for followers to pray for his demise in light of his "satanic lifestyle."

Read the Nov. 26 series of Tweets, from a user identified only as Keith, below:

Keith
Apparently George Michael has AIDS. Figures since he's a homosexual and it goes with the territory. Another sodomite bites the dust?

Keith
Once George Michael bites the dust, it'll be the perfect time to roll out new anti-sodomy ads. This lifestyle is clearly dangerous.

Keith
Pray for George Michael's demise. He has chosen a satanic lifestyle and must meet an appropriate end.

Keith
No, he has not. He has promoted and flaunted his homosexuality and tried to make it "normal", thus increasing sodomy + AIDS

However, Keith and his organization's wishes seem to have already been dashed, as have their claims Michael's ailments are more serious than pneumonia. "Any other speculation regarding his illness is unfounded and untrue," his publicist is quoted by ABC News as saying. "He is receiving excellent medical care. He is responding to treatment and slowly improving."

In addition, Fawaz added, "I have been seeing him each day and he is getting stronger all the time. George is trying to stay upbeat. He is smiling through it all and everyone is just willing him to get better.”

Honor George Michael by taking a look at some of his greatest hits below:

What morals justify praying for someone's demise? What God could ever condone such behavior?
It's time for so called Christians in America, to actually behave as such - Christian. Don't be all God-fearing, hateful, spiteful, prejudiced against everything and everyone. Christian should be(and was) the pure definition of all- and ever encompassing love for each and everyone. Even your enemy.
Paying taxes and thus doing good for others who are less fortunate, is the Christian thing to do. Accepting people of all races, nationalities, sexual preferences and religious creeds, is the Christian thing to do.
By the standards of some of today's Christians(I'm not saying all), Jesus was a communist Arab(more or less), and would be a danger to the moral standing of Christianity in America. I'm just saying...........

By the true definition of Christianity, the ones who come the closest are Socialists.... :-D

Anyone who would pray for someone to die because they are different from you is a Satanist. God and Jesus would NEVER want someone to pray for death. God made us all just how HE wanted.

If his pneumonia is connected to an immunodeficiency, its treatable, He's got something else. The HIV virus doesn't know sexes or sex preference. It only needs blood fluid contact. Christian reactionaries like those down below fuel epidemics.

Anyone wishing this man, or any person, to die and then claiming to be a Christain, needs to run, not walk, to the nearest looney bin and pray to your god who is obviously SATAN!

Im quite appalled. I am a life-long Christian and daughter of a pastor. Myself or my family would NEVER wish for ill upon this man or anyone else. In fact he is very talented and I wish him a very quick recovery. The fact that as a Christian i have a belief about the gay lifestyle doesnt mean i would wish death upon anyone or pass judgement on someones "morality". No one is an exception to not breaking the moral compass not even the most self-righteous and holy of Christians. PLEASE I beg you that read this, to not be like these people and pass judgement on all Christians and believers. A true Christian bears fruit of compassion, forgivness and love. That is what God asks of us as believers to love one another. Peace and remember Gods love, mercy and forgivness is for ALL people who want it. Much love xoxoxo

So as a life-long Christian, what are your thoughts on what happens to George Michael, or any gay friend (assuming you have any) or gay family member (I assure you that you have some, even if you don't know it), after they die?

Will their infinitely merciful creator burn them alive forever? If you genuinely believe this, don't you think you should be spending more time trying to convert these people to the One True Faith(tm), rather than defending your own True Christian belief sensibilities? (PS This article wasn't about what you believe.)

My beliefs of what happens in the afterlife to people is not relevant at all. Yes i have many gay friends, cousins and a sister. I dont need to try and convert anyone to the true faith. I let them in on what i believe to be truth and they have the choice to accept it or not. My point in commenting on this article was to extend support, even if its only in a blog, to an ailing human life of gay or straight sexual preferences and that not every branch of Christianity feels the way these people do. I can see you have some pretty intense issues so i will just leave it at that. Wishing Mr. Michael a very speedy recovery... :)

As a Christian, who is a big fan of the book of Matthew.

1) I would pray for George to get better from his illness/pnuemonia first as that is the duty of any Christian to care for and help the sick and needy.

2) it is not Christian for me to judge anyone on their lifestyle or choice of religion. Therefore that choice is between George and God. It is simply my duty to make people aware about what Christianity is. And that is the teachings of Christ.

3) By Christian standards, no matter what sins a person commits, they can always ask for forgiveness of their sins and be forgiven. But again that is between them and God. George always has the option of that, and so is not by true Christian standards automatically doomed for the pits of hell.

With that said - these people who pray for death, who teach hate and racism in the name of Christ, who use (and abuse) God's name in their evils.. they too should rethink their actions and pray for forgiveness, and I pray that they will. But again - that is between them and God.

Get well soon to Mr. Michael. I don't wish anyone to be sick. BTW, why do these people think it is their job to act for God or decide what God wants? If God wants to punish anyone or kill them, can't he or she do that without our help? I wonder what God thinks of people that pray for the death of others.

"Keith" is a fairly extreme case of christian, but I've found that anytime someone states that they are a Christian in polite conversation, that I start to watch what they say and how they conduct themselves following that admission. It's just a kind of a reflex I've developed over the years.

It used to be I did this because I was looking for examples of genuinely better humans. After being completely disappointed so many times, I only do it for self entertainment now. Any more I just set my stopwatch to see how many minutes it takes for the self-professed Christian to do or say something that identifies them as morally bankrupt, however "forgiven" they may be.

I grew up watching him evolve professionally and yet decay personally and it hurt to watch.
I feel only sadness and compassion for the suffering he now endures.
We are all here with our foibles...no one is perfect...no one should stand to judge the other.
I will pray for his health and for his peace.
To think that a "christian" would demand his death is sooooooooo HORRIFYING.
What sad little evil people...OMG!!!

These people are not Christians. They have twisted the message of Christ into something perverse. Christians do not pray for the death of anyone.

Perhaps you should read up on some history of the world, christians have been murdering people since the very beginning. In fact, they are responsible for more deaths, torture, hatred, intolerance, and bigotry than ANY other group ever, by a massive margin.

This is not entirely true. Other organizations have managed to cause more hatred, torture, murder, intolerance, etc. The only reason Christianity doesn't hold the top spot is that they didn't have modern technology in the past: when you have to (more or less) personally kill every one of your victims, you will kill less people than someone with a modern mass killing device.

When modern technology became available they had mellowed and moderated somewhat to the point where they didn't feel the need to kill large numbers of people. They managed a few massacres and genocides after modern tech became available (North American peoples, colonization, etc.) but they were partners with the secular governments, not acting on their own and/or commanding from the top.

Now they continue to cause a lot of unnecessary grief and deaths through the various bans on reproductive control and STD protection, and they may well be the top dogs for that kind of grief and destruction.
11:44 AM on 12/06/2011
Perhaps your comment needs to be clarified: People who have gone to Christian churches before have been murdering people since the beginning.

Christian dogma does not demand murdering, torture, hatred, etc., but, sadly, some people who attend these churches often do what humans have done since the beginning of time - fail to live up to the standards placed before them by whatever authority they have.

Because Chritians are totally imperfect people prone to sin and failure just like everyone else, one should not equate the totality of Christian value with those who try to subscribe to its tenets.

Most Evangelical Christians have twisted the Message of Christ into something perverted
12:27 PM on 12/06/2011
So have a lot of Muslims. Since they believe that Christians should be killed and called the devil, this is the same thing. Personally, I stear away from any and all radical groups, whether they are christians, muslims, black panthers, KKK, etc. Any message of HATE is not what the Power that Created Me is about. Love and tolerance must start by being practices by each one of us before we become attractive enough to encourage others to live and act in perfect love. Practice....Practice....Practice.

I DVRed Dexter and watched it last night. The antagonists are just like the tweeters. But the truth is, The Lord ate and drank with 'sinners'. And He never recommended violence or spiritual warfare against a human. So these people are not true Christians. "Who is a true Christian?", you may well ask: Anyone who follows Jesus by reading The Word themselves. Jesus led on this earth by attraction, not promotion.
And here is my favorite George Michael song, freedom 90. 21 years and he still would be in style.

Jesus did behave violently once or twice. The most direct example being the chasing of the moneychangers from the temple, John 2:13-16. He didn't just go in shouting and waving his arms, he made a whip of knotted cords and attacked the moneychangers with it, also overturning their tables and driving their sacrificial animals out into the street. So strictly speaking Jesus did advocate violence against certain moneychanger humans.

As for "spiritual warfare", Matthew 10:14-15 says that if anyone shall not receive the message of Jesus' disciples, they are to leave and shake the dust from their sandals, and "it will be worse for [that city] than for Sodom and Gomorrah". So it appears that Jesus advocated a bit of the spiritual warfare as well.

I agree that the *general* message is one of peace, but it is important to note the exceptions.

Interesting, this reminds of the time my very Catholic 40-something boyfriend's parents from Ohio told him that though they had never met me and that he and I were happy and following "the rules", they would pray that we break up because I'm black. Seriously, you can't make this stuff up, some people just have really skewed views of what is important in life...

I'm a christian but i do live my life the way i want to live it, and not what the Bible tells me i should, to many do's and dont's in the Bible, you cant live that way, gay's and perverts are damned in the Bible, so all gay should go to church and repent now and ask god to foregive the sin's, AIDS IS RIFE AGAIN AND IT'S GAY PEOPLE THAT ARE STILL THE HIGHEST CONTROBUTERS, stick a johny on your willy and not your willy into johny, if you do the math, if all gays were dead then AIDS would be nearly gon with just a few here and there and the africans left, job don, gay is wrong anyway so lets not advertise it,
