New Year's Eve In Las Vegas: A MapQuest Guide
On New Year's Eve in Las Vegas, locals and visitors revel in the possibilities of the months to come. From ball drops to fireworks to First Night activities, every locale rings in the new year a little differently. As part of NewYearsQuest -- a MapQuest guide to the best New Year's Eve sights and sounds in the U.S. and in major cities around the world -- here are three recommended events for New Year's Eve 2011 in Las Vegas.

If any locale knows how to throw a good New Year's Eve party, it's Sin City. In fact, the annual America's Party on the Strip in Las Vegas may be second only to Times Square in New York as the best-known place in the United States to ring in the new year. On New Year's Eve, revelers take the celebrations into the streets, as they witness a pyrotechnic display launched from eight firing locations at midnight. The event is free to the public.
Fremont Street Experience New Year's Eve
For revelers wishing to be bathed in sound and light, ringing in the new year at the Fremont Street Experience is surely the answer. The popular pedestrian mall features Viva Vision, a light display that uses "state-of-the-art technology" to bring live video feeds and animation to viewers on a screen bigger than one can imagine. A $30 ticket gets you in the gates for a night of live music on three separate stages (featuring some wonderful tribute-band names, such as Red Not Chili Peppers and Fan Halen) and a light show on the Fremont Street canopy. The party is typically broadcast all over the country.
Tao New Year's Eve 2012 Hosted By Kim Kardashian
The family everyone loves to hate (or hates to love) descends on Las Vegas this New Year's Eve to host nightclub parties all around the Strip. Kourtney Kardashian joins boyfriend Scott Disick at the Chateau's party, while "Dancing With the Stars" contestant Rob hosts the party at Tryst nightclub at the Wynn Hotel. The hottest ticket Kardashian event, especially in light of her recent and very brief marriage, is Kim's party at the Venetian's TAO nightclub, where tickets start at $150 and include an open bar from 9 to 11 p.m., hors d'oeuvres and a champagne toast at midnight. According to CBS Celebrity Circuit, Kim debuted a new single at last year's party, so guests can hope for a repeat.
