Syracuse Scandal: Laurie Fine To Contest Integrity Of Tape-Recorded Conversations?

A stunning development in the Syracuse abuse scandal occurred over the weekend when ESPN's "Outside The Line" aired tape-recorded conversations between alleged victim Bobby Davis and the wife of former assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine.

But Laurie Fine is reportedly preparing to suggest those tapes were doctored.

According to the tapes provided by Davis, Laurie Fine admitted knowledge of the alleged abuse by her husband and revealed her belief that "he thinks he's above the law."

Later in the segment, Davis told ESPN that he also had a sexual relationship with Laurie. He claimed that she initiated it and that the two have had sexual intercourse.

However, Matt Govendo, the nephew of Fine's wife, claimed on Monday that Laurie would contest the integrity of the phone recordings. Per CNN, Govendo said that Laurie will release a statement on Tuesday admitting that it is in fact her voice, but that some portions of the recording "are all tampered with."

Bernie, who was fired on Sunday, is under investigation for sexually abusing two boys who served as ball boys for the basketball team.

A third accuser, Zach Tomaselli of Lewiston, Maine, came forward over the weekend and told the police that the former coach molested him in 2002 in a Pittsburgh hotel room.

Wouldn't the expert have been able to tell whether or not the tape was doctored at the time he was confirming it was her voice? Did ESPN fail AGAIN by NOT asking if the tape was tampered with, during the voice analysis? I'm sure it doesn't take 8 years to have this done but regardless, it's not ESPN's responsibilty to do it, it's the FBI's. (unless, of course, ESPN wanted it for the "scoop"). Shame on you ESPN!

The whole of college sports needs to be redone. Coaches and even sports programs of many schools are far too rich and way too powerful. It's ridiculous how much money flows through these programs and coaches making several million dollars a year is shameful.

The tape supposedly had voice analysis done for voice recongnition and it was confirmed it is her on the tape which she admitted too.. Tape being doctored is another piece of the puzzle that has to be determined...

Wow, what a mess....how embarassing this is to Syracuse University, period. Bernie Fine has been fired, so is it time to fire the Head Basketball Coach, Jim Boheim??? especially after his direct attack of the alledged victims before ANY OF THE FACTS came out via the police investigation regarding these allegations??? Just soooo damn disturbing yet again....wouldn't you agree???

The real story is that the accuser claims he had a sexual relationship with the wife. That throws all credibility on his part out the window. The Tomaselli guy is a pedophile, so that throws his credibility out. It's begining to look like Fine was fired based on lies...so much for due process. Maybe he can sue these accusers for defamation when it's all over.

Whether the allegations against Fine are true or not remain to be proven, but one thing that is without question: Bobby Davis' standards in sexual partners leaves much to be desired....
