From the moment Steven Spielberg chose Daniel Day-Lewis to play Abraham Lincoln in his upcoming biopic about the president, movie fans have been excited to see just how closely the Oscar-winner would be made to resemble the bearded leader.

From this first look, it's very, very closely.

Twitter user @UVAMichael posted a photo of Day-Lewis with his Lincoln goatee and hair style, and it's amazing just how much he looks like Lincoln. And that's without the top hat.

The film, which will also star Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robert Todd Lincoln, Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens and John Hawkes as Robert Latham, amongst other stars.

I actually think the spirits of William Poole, Abe Lincoln take over Daniel Day Lewis body when he is called on to play thease rolls. THATS HOW GOOD HE IS!!!

I am an artist of urban hip hop so please do not take me literal as I say this in a figure of speech that would best describe Daniel Day Lewis... and that is... DANIEL DAY LEWIS IS DOPE!

Saw him in Let there be blood and Gangs of New York... the first thing I said to myself was... this man could nail anything down to a T historically.... now he's playing as the 16th President of the UNITED STATES? Yeah.. looks like I wasn't the only 1 who saw his potential and mark my words... he's going to kill it!!! guaranteed!! ... can't wait to see the movie.

Are you sure he isn't just playing a Romulan for the next Star Trek movie?

I am sooooooooooo there! Mr Lewis is an astounding actor and Abraham Lincoln is, in my opinion, our most fascinating president.

The world will little note nor long remember what Lincoln did, folks will just remember the performance of Lewis.

Why don't we just mail him the Oscar now and just shave a little time off next year's broadcast?

I just hope form an historical standpoint, the movie deals with the political ramifications of the slave question. I would ask the question about why Lincoln waited until November of 1863 before issueing the Emancipation Proclamation. Even Czar Alexander freed the serfs in 1861.

Check out his museum in Springfield, IL if you haven't. One room displays all the violent political discourse over the potential Emancipation Proclamation, in the form of holograms shouting at you as you approach the sole figure of Lincoln, standing at a writing desk, beleaguered and pondering.
The U.S. was (and is) not quite Russia. :)

Always look for to His movies. DDL spent weeks in living in the woods prior to Last of the Mohicans. He prepares well for his parts. Always look forward to a hard working actors work.
