Newt Gingrich On Fox News: I Have To 'Know What I'm Talking About' Now That I'm Not On Network (VIDEO)

First Posted: 11/30/11 09:43 AM ET Updated: 11/30/11 10:58 AM ET

Newt Gingrich took a swipe at Fox News during a town hall meeting on Tuesday.

Gingrich, who has been surging in the presidential polls, was in the key state of South Carolina taking questions. Think Progress caught video of Gingrich's response to one query. A woman in the audience asked a complex question about the Obama administration's AIDS policy, and wondered what Gingrich thought about the issue. The candidate admitted that the information was new to him, and that he didn't know enough to give her a response. Then he hit out at Fox News -- which used to employ him as an analyst before dropping him when he made his intentions to run for president clear.

"One of the real changes that comes when you start running for President -- as opposed to being an analyst on Fox -- is I have to actually know what I'm talking about," he said. The woman let out a startled laugh, and the audience joined in. "It's a severe limitation," Gingrich added.

Speaking the day before the Delaware primary, Gingrich hinted he was considering ending his presidential run:

"I think we need to take a deep look at what we are doing," Gingrich said in an interview with NBC News during a campaign stop in Delaware. "We will be in North Carolina tomorrow night and we will look and see what the results are."

According to NBC, the former House speaker said he would need to "reassess" based on the results of Tuesday's primary in Delaware, a state where Gingrich has spent a great deal of time campaigning in recent weeks. Gingrich indicated that the state's 17 delegates were crucial to his viability as a candidate.

How did Gingrinch balance the budget?  By a series of tax hikes enacted under Reagan, Bush and Clinton from 1983 to 1993.  The increases in revenue balanced the budget and the lack of government deficits helped fuel the biggest economic boom in the last 50 years.

Gingrinch inherited a burgeoning economy and increasing Federal revenues through no action of his own.  By the time he  Read More...

A man reprimanded of ethics violations in 1997, the only spearker ever to be reprimanded. A man who comitted adultry. A man who provided false information to Congress. Is this the best the all mighty conservatives can come up with.

He helped balance the budget, the biggest portion of which were the tax increases which took hold 1993. At least we have one candidate who is beginning to speak intelligently. I would be embarrassed for Obama to appear on same stage with most of the other republican candidates. He will mop the floor with Newt, though.

My Christmans message to Newt:

Be aware that you will meet the same peo[ple on the way down as you did on the way up.

Also, iIt may not be wise to bite the hand that fed you. You may not get a second chance.

Who does Newt Gingrich think he is fooling? He thinks he is a slick talker and that should make him a good debater; Newt really hasn’t had anyone to debate him yet. There is one question I would love to debate him on, Why should anyone who took an oath to up hold the constitution of the United State; instead did the opposite and was force to resign from congress after he was told by John Boehner and the Republican leadership to step down from his position as the speaker of the United States House of Representatives; be allowed to represent the American people as the President of the United States? I would love to see Newt slick talk his way out of that question.

Both sides suck, but neither will admit it.

That's not very smart of Newt- unless it was part of the Democrat's master plan. FOX's promotion of Ginglrich, along with polls showing him climbing in popularity, are just what Obama needs to pull off a victory in 2012.

I'm thinking of shamelessly plagiarising Beckett and write a new play called " Waiting for Reagan".

I hoping to capitalize on the nations new taste for absurdest comedy.

It always makes me furious that too many blips about Gingrich do NOT include the fact that as Speaker of the House, he was found to have committed unethical behavior by the Congressional Ethics Comm. and fined $300,000 for it. And that while he was castigating Bill Clinton for his sordid little affair, he was himself conducting an affair with the woman he eventually married and then divorced (the Jaguar).

When giving news about Newt, the least they could do is be more honest about his unethical behavior then and, IMO, no amount of 'finding god' will make him more ethical at this point in time.

Oh now this is funny, I can bet that this story will NEVER appear on FOX news, they are so in the tank for Newt and he repays them like this....what a guy! I can't believe that this serial wife cheater with "ethical problems" has risen to the top of the GOP field like cream, but like cream, will kill you in the end!

In politics, this is called a tack to the center to appeal to independents who favor Romney. Newt doesn't say ANYTHING without a political goal behind it. People might label Mitt as a flopper but I've seen Texas Instruments products that are less calculating than Gingrich.

Dilettante - look it up in the dictionary and find Newt's pic. It's probably a pic from the 90's.
