In "The Family" (about the C Street group), Jeff Sharlet talked about how AIDS had been declining in Uganda for some years due to awareness about condoms, but when Yoweri Museveni came to power, he encouraged people to burn condoms, and the disease starting spreading again.

Don't panic.

I can't believe there still has to be awareness taught about AIDS in developed parts of the world. There are still so many who contract HIV in the United States, and it isn't for lack of knowledge. It's crazy.

I am old enough to remember the early days of the AIDS epidemic: People dying in the hospitals with nothing doctors could do for them, and the Reagan administration busy dismissing the epidemic as a "Gay Thing". That's when I became politically aware and decided never to vote Republican. I haven't since.

So much suffering this has caused, and yet what does the U.S. do? Bail out banks.

Never heard of PEPFAR?

Probably not, not something the left likes to talk about.

Well the figures in your site don't actually match up with reality. It's a nice advertisement, but donations are declining, rightie.

Too much lives have been saved by great scientists, unfortunately too many lives have alos been lost due to many people's disregard of this epidemic

I will observe this day here in our small town.

Awareness is great and has my full support -- the photos are inspiring and beautiful .

Education of condom use in the developing world will be key , but the problem still is a matter of hard dollars ( forgive the pun ) for those condoms and for needles ( with exchange programs )

The numbers of contractions are increasing as the dollars shrink and awareness wanes.

We need to do more.

Then you should donate mosquito nets to cut down on malaria cases.
And yes-people still care about AIDS.

President Bush started PEPFAR to combat both.

Actually, that would depend on which part of the globe one lives in---- within the US, HIV is substantially more important than malaria.
