FORT PAYNE, Ala. -- Two teenagers face charges after police say they released deer urine scent in a Walmart in northeastern Alabama, damaging clothes worth more than $11,000.

The retailing chain sells heavily scented products referred to as "deer bombs" for use by hunters, and Fort Payne police said Wednesday that security cameras captured images of two people picking up a pair of the bombs on Nov. 22.

Authorities say two 18-year-olds then went to a clothing area, where the bombs were set off in the pockets of clothing.

Police say Clint Taylor Bailey of Fort Payne and Christopher Lamar Weathers of Dawson are charged with felony criminal mischief and misdemeanor theft. Each is free on $13,000 bonds. Documents haven't been filed showing whether either teenager has a defense lawyer.

These two were obviously making trouble but question: why does Walmart have these freely out and not locked up if they can make people sick as people are saying? Couldn't children who really didn't know any better get ahold of them then? I believe the saying "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" is applicable here. I do realize that people are expected to exercise restraint and watch their children but this is a RETAIL store, aren't they supposed to be responsible in looking out for their customers and protecting their products from damage?

Buck Bombs in an aerosol can. It can be sprayed intermittently or locked down to fog out its entire contents. Now only cloths got it really? The store let them off easy, lucky no one got sick! They are 18 years old now. They should have to work it off not the parents. OH my! With a 3 mph breeze this product can drift in excess of 1/4 mile, and it sticks to everything it comes in contact with leaving a natural scent trail right back to the can. . It stimulates the appetite of those big bucks. Yea!
Too bad we couldn't use to round-up terrorist!

If we still have reform school these two should be sent there.
Additionally their parents should be made to pay Walmart for the damage, just my opinion.

to pprice9748,
That's bad news.
At least they can still be locked up as adults or juveniles,I don't care which, until they learn respect for themselves and other people's property.

They'll walk.

Felony criminal mischief and misdemeanor theft?

They never stole anything; they only moved it to another section of the store.

Destroying clothes? How much did Wal-Mart pay for them? Certainly not $11,000.

I would bet they were made in China to start with or Mexico and they

probably only paid about $50 for all of them, so Felony?? I don't think so.

to Viper1ex19,
Nothing you have said changes the fact that they maliciously damaged property that was not theirs.
I wonder if you would be so sarcastic if they damaged your house.

There wouldn't be a story at all if someone damaged my house or personal belongings.
Where I live these things are handled personally. We don't usually get LEO involved.

My comment wasn't to debunk the legitimacy of this story; it was simply stating the facts based upon past experience working with the judicial system in Alabama.

It is unfortunate that things work that way but there are a lot of things in our government that make absolutely no sense at all. Our government lets criminals walk free every day because they don’t have the funds to prosecute or house even if they win the case.

Most likely these kids will be offered a plea deal and walk with probation and restitution.
You can’t charge them for what you wanted to sell the clothes for [period]
The actual cost of the clothing (What Wal-Mart paid for them) is all they can try to recover along with the cost of any disposal fees which there won’t be because they will be given to a charity which will clean them and sell them and Wal-Mart will take a charity tax credit for the actual value of the items donated.

Thank you for you reply

Wal-Mart can charge them how much they could sell the items for since that's what they've lost in sales as a result. Most places will charge you retail prices if you steal things. I even know of someone who stole a store display and was charged regardless of it not being worth anything because it was the store's property. Setting off the deer bombs is the same as eating a candy bar ... they "consumed" or "used" an item without paying for it. Wal-Mart's reaction is logical. It's also considered theft to change price tags on items and people do get prosecuted for it.

You don't honestly think Wal-Mart really paid that for those clothes do you?

That price is what they hoped to sell them for.

They send more than that to GoodWill each month becuase they dont sell.

If these kids get a decent lawyer, they'll walk.

There is a lesson these boys need to learn regarding damaging others property so I would not only suggest repayment in full plus a bit more for the cost of commotion but maybe 400 hours of public service to be served on weekends and perhaps all next summer in lieu of time off (and oh yeah) be gainfully employed or better yet be in a local community college producing passing grades if they have not graduated from high school. Obviously if they can do the crime, they can do the time.

to walker1946,
That is not relevant, the point is they damaged property that was not theirs and need to be punished for it.
05:08 PM on 12/01/2011
Well, if you have an urge to put deer urine scent in a store, I can't think of a better one choice than Walmart. Wish they all closed and we all went back to Kmart.

That's a great idea. Do you know that Walmart is the largest emplopyer in the world. How would that affect the unemployment? Some of you people are so stupid.

So be on your best behavior. No shoplifting.

I always wondered how deer urine is captured? Do they have domestic deer that use a urinal or toilet? Maybe Walmart could sell those clothes to deer hunters?

Wrong, they took two "deer bombs" made of deer urine, used to attract bucks, from the hunting supply dept and took them into a dressing room and released them in pockets of Walmart clothes. Read the article again.
