Tom Cruise Will Fight Aliens In Sci-Fi Flick, 'All You Need Is Kill'

Tom Cruise's New Gig

Turns out, if you need something done, Tom Cruise is your man.

According to Variety, Cruise has agreed to star in "All You Need Is Kill," rescuing the film from movie purgatory, where it has been for many months.

The very un-John Lennon title, "All You Need Is Kill," marries the concept of "Groundhog Day" with an alien war story. (Huh?)

Based on a graphic novel, the movie is said to follow a solider who is killed by alien enemies and finds himself reliving his final day over and over, gradually becoming a better solider.

Apparently, Cruise has been vying for this role for quite some time. (Who wouldn't be!)

Film execs for "Kill" had hoped to get a big star to headline the movie, but thought the script called for a younger actor like Ryan Gosling or Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The script has already been reworked to reflect Cruise's age.

But age doesn't seem to be standing in the way of this superstar. Cruise has just wrapped up "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" and he will star in the hair-sprayed Broadway musical adaptation "Rock of Ages," defy sensitive height issues and play a tough ex-army cop in "One Shot" and then star in "Oblivion," a sci-fi film co-starring Jessica Chastain.

You show those youngins who's boss, Tom!
