Walmart Clothes Found With Needles, Two Women Pricked (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 12/01/2011 4:27 pm Updated: 12/01/2011 11:43 pm

Brace yourselves -- this one's pretty horrifying.

AP reports that in Cartersville, Georgia, customers have found at least four syringes hidden in Walmart clothing items -- and at least two women were pricked by the needles while trying clothes on.

"I felt something stick me in the finger and I was like, 'what is that'?" Courtney Worthington, 14, told local new station WXIA-TV. A needle stuck in both her foot and hand while she was trying on a new pair of PJs bought at Walmart.

Patricia Headrick also had a hypodermic needle suddenly prick her finger when she reached into a package of bras at the same Cartersville Walmart. She told WXIA-TV, "Everything started going through my mind. Whose arm was this in; whose body -- was this a used needle; am I going to die based on this being in someone's body?"

Authorities don't know for sure, but just in case, Headrick told the store managers then headed to get tested for diseases. And although she had blood work done, she won't know immediately whether she has been exposed to anything dangerous.

"I'm just waiting game," Headrick told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I'm scared to death. I don't know what's going to happen."

In the meantime, she must take preventative medicine just in case the needle was exposed to HIV -- and the seven days of medicine is costing her $1,300.

Although initially WXIA-TV reported that Walmart would not be paying for the pricey meds, a Wal-Mart Stores Inc. spokeswoman has since confirmed that the retailer will pay for any medical expenses for Headrick and anyone else pricked by the surreptitious syringes.

Which is mighty big of Walmart, considering they had potentially dirty needles aimed directly at customers' limbs.

It's not the first time, of course, that Walmart hasn't treated its customers too kindly. We'll never forget the Walmart Bikini Incident of 2011, when an Oregon woman was kicked out of her local Walmart for wearing a bikini top with her shorts and sandals.

We have to admit: this is way worse.

That's some horrible ..hit! Looking through clothing only to be pricked by a needle that could be infected with HIV or Hep C or something.Disturbing! maybe a disgruntled employee,as I hear Wal-Mart doesn't treat their employees well...takes a sick person to do such a diabolical thing!

I never shop at WalMart. I won't give them a dime of my money. Someone told me about this website - peopleofwalmart.com. Check this out and you'll never want to shop there again.

just another valid reason to NEVER set foot in a scummy walmart.

Syringes or needles, the article is confusing on that. Something smells fishy here.

Sometimes the terms are used interchangeably. Nothing suspicious about that.

Every time I walk out of a Wal-Mart I feel like I need to schedule an appointment for a check-up. Not to mention the need of wanting to take a shower. I've seen NYC Subway docks look cleaner then Wal-Mart Stores.

Remember all of the hype we have had over needles being in mailboxes, drinking fountains, and an array of places. There are just sick people in the world and they all don't live in Georgia. Just check out clothes wherever you are and don't jam your hands into them. Also when you dig through bins of items, don't plunge your hands into them.

This sounds just like an old urban legend, look up "needles" at snopes.com and you will find plenty of versions.

LOL. Or possibly needles used to stick adrenalin directly into the hearts of those stepped over and suffocated by the Black Friday mob shoppers.

Oooh not good. I wish that poor woman the best. I have never shopped at Walmart, and never will.
It could happen anywhere, tho. Guess this season, we will have to look out not to get stuck. sad.

I'm concerned there will be copycats at any store, any where. What an unbelievable world we all live in.

Ewww. That's what I thought.

Sheesh. We have to scan clothes for metal before trying them on now?

So true. I feel so sorry for the woman...what a freaky feeling that would be. Sad thing is, it takes a while to get the results from the blood work back.
The long waiting period, and not knowing, has got to be brutal.

Never shopped there?? That is VERY impressive!
