Celebrity Moms: They're Nothing Like Us

The Huffington Post First Posted: 12/02/11 05:24 PM ET Updated: 12/08/11 11:16 AM ET

Stars are just like you and me! They drink coffee! They shop at Target! They spend $87,000 on a nursery! Wait. What?

Really, celebrities are not just like us when it comes to parenting. Yes, they may provide the same love and affection for their kids, but there are $12,000 push presents, seven-year-olds who get highlights and babies rocking $265 jeans. And in 2011, there were several more jarring moments in the world of celebrity kids.

Here are the top 11 "Celeb moms, they're nothing like us" moments of 2011. Let us know if we forgot any in the comments.

  • Mariah Carey's Twins Born To Applause

Every new mom deserves a round of applause after giving birth. Mariah Carey's husband Nick Cannon took that quite literally. He played one of Mariah's live albums as she gave birth, so that twins, Moroccan and Monroe, could be born to the sound of cheers. On top of that, he gave Carey a $12,000 necklace of diamonds and pink sapphires.

  • Posh Spice Can Do Anything In 7-Inch Heels

Shopping with children is challenging. So is shopping in stilettos. So how is it that Victoria Beckham manages to do both at the same time exactly? Yes, the woman formerly known as Posh Spice carried her daughter Harper Seven in (appropriately enough) seven-inch heels.

  • Suri Cruise's Fashion Week Wardrobe

Your kids probably go through a few outfit changes per day (ie. you put them in a different onesie after they've spit their food all over it or change their pants when they've decided it's a good idea to jump up and down in a dirty puddle). For Suri Cruise, however, outfit changes are not about necessity; they're about keeping up with New York's fashion week. She rocked two different outfits in one day, one of which included an oversized Armani hat, and another with mini gold heels.

  • Rachel Zoe's $87,000 Nursery

Getting the nursery ready for your baby's arrival is exciting. You may pick out a soft blankie, maybe even go the extra mile to paint wistful clouds on the ceiling... Unless of course you're Rachel Zoe, in which case you'll secure a limited edition Missoni stroller and put $3,700 worth of footwear in your child's closet before you throw a $1400 Hermes blanket over a $914 crib. Those are just the necessities of course, don't forget the $1355 silver piggy bank for all the change your baby will accumulate. Total tab for baby Skyler's nursery? It's estimated at $87,000.

  • Beyonce Performs, Pregnant In Sequin Mini-Dress

The first trimester of a pregnancy can be tough. If you're not nauseous, odds are you're still having a hard time staying awake past 9 o'clock. Not Beyonce though. Back in August, she performed four sold-out shows, whilst wearing a sequined mini-dress. How'd she hide her belly? With a strategically placed bib of course, because who wouldn't need more than a bib to cover up a pregnancy? She did, however, say she had trouble breathing while she performed, so she may in fact be human after all.

  • Coco Arquette, 7, Gets Blonde Highlights

Kids have the benefit of being naturally adorable. They don't need touching up. Unless you're talking about Courtney Cox's daughter, Coco. The potential to get sun-kissed hair by frolicking outside like any other seven-year-old wasn't enough for her, so last July, she opted to get highlights the grown-up way -- at a Malibu salon.

  • Suri Cruise Gets $5 Million Dollars...For Turning 5

What to give your daughter for her fifth birthday: the options probably range from dolls to dress up clothes to, well, that's might be the list. But why not give her $5million dollars instead like Katie Holmes did for Suri Cruise? After all, she's probably going to have to cover the cost of that ridiculously expensive wardrobe herself someday so what better way to get her started than with some pocket change. For some over-the-top celebrity kid birthday parties to go with over-the-top presents, click here for Babble's round-up.

  • The Duggars: We're Losing Count

As Hillary Clinton says, it really does take a village to raise a child. The Duggars have shown us that if you're raising 20, it takes it takes a reality show. That's the only way it's feasible to keep track of them, and stay motivated to keep having them. In November, they announced that Michelle is pregnant, again. The news was so unbelievable, even Duggar's uterus was surprised and had some thoughts on the matter.

  • Denise Richards: $265 Jeans For a 16-Month-Old?

It's easy to ooh and ahh over baby clothes. It's also crushing when after all that oohing and ahhing, you decide to splurge on some special attire for your little darling, only to see her grow out of it in 10 minutes. Denise Richards apparently does not mind this, because she bought her daughter Eloise $265 Gucci Jeans at the tender age of 16 weeks.

  • Adriana Lima's Tri-lingual Toddler

It's not enough that Adriana Lima is a Victoria's Secret model: she also has to have a child who is tri-lingual at 21 months. As of August, daughter Valentina was already speaking Serbian, Portuguese and English (but only when commanding their dog).

  • Jessica Simpson: Giving Birth In Heels?

Victoria Beckham and Rachel Zoe running around with pregnant bellies while in six-inch stilettos is painful to look at. But, Jessica Simpson may be even more extreme: recently, the singer claimed she'd be giving birth in heels, and YSL ones, no less. If that goes down, we've got number one on the list of ridiculous birth stories in 2012.

So just because these women are in the position to lead their lives & raise their kids the way they do, doesn't make them wrong, its just the difference in people. If some of their choices aren't anything that you would wanna repeat, your also free to do it in your own ways. Last I looked, the kids in Hollywood weren't the only youngsters in the country or the world with problems, if the way these celeb. kids being raised wrong is the blame, then whats the excuse for your troubled kids? Monkey see monkey do.....Where are the parents in that situation?

Clearly they are nothing like normal parents. Look at the ridiculous names they give their kids. Madonna has Lordess, really mom you named me Lordess? Paltro has apple, why name your kid after a fruit? These kids will get their asses kicked on the playground every day. I know I want to beat someone when I hear the name Pilot Instruktor.

Lourdes is not a rare name in Latin America.

These kids go to really expensive private schools or they are home-schooled. They won't have to worry about bullies.

you know america is eff'd up when celebrities are paying thousands of dollars for their kids, who don't really care, and a texas woman shoots herself and her kids because she can't get food stamps!

This cracks me up,they don't do any of the work that is required as a parent, they just play with them, take them out in public, while the live-in's and the nurses do everything else.

I agree, an actors life is just like a high school kids. That is why they get married then divorced a few months later. Marriage is like dating in high school who cares if we get divorced look at all the free press we get. If the average actor didnt want to exploit their kids in order to get free press then why parade them around and give them just ridiculous names.
09:44 AM on 12/07/2011
i dont criticise them if they have the money why not spend it on your nursery or your kid, but ...dont say they are just like us. because they dont raise their children ..the nannies do. and bravo to the ones that give birth to their kids, cause the majority of them pay surrogates.

The majority do not pay surrogates, thats ridiculous. I bet you cant name me 5 actresses who have paid surrogates. Maybe someone who cant conceive but very few have done it to avoid pregnancy.

Celebrity "moms"? You mean employers - so many of them hire nannies to raise their kids.

Well sorry but this article deserves a big "WELL DUH" of course celeb mom are different. They have more money and get nannies and can hire chefs and personal trainers to get their bodies back into order. Nannies take care of the kids and do all the hard stuff that comes with being a mom. Like the nanny can diaper, feed, up at nights with crying baby, bath and so forth. The celeb mom can come in afterwards to have fun with the kids after the real work is done by the nanny. So DUH of course celeb moms are different.

sadly here kids grow up to be as unrealilistic as they are and alot of them dont make it in the every day world unless someone sets them up where they are making money for doing nothing like the jenner and kardashian women the younger sisters are not even out of school and already have big bank accounts

Well its not that sad but I agree. Look at Julia Roberts. She named her kids names Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus ’Finn’ Walter. Yea those are both solid names Julia if it was 1895. I have a dog named Finn its not a good childs name at all. Look how many of them go right back to work after they pop out a kid. Julia Roberts said she was going to take a very long time off but we see how that went. She is so narsacistic she just cant handle not being in the news or being talked about. Her twins were less than two when she went back to work. She had another kid in 07. This time she took almost no time off. Charlie Wilsons war premiered less than 6 months later so she had to have popped out a kid and went to work on the movie. She gave the last kid an equally bad name of Henry. I would be really pissed if I was named Henry but glad I was not Phinneaus.

Ah, but how much time do they REALLY spend with their children? And how much of that time is REALLY about the children being children and not part of their parents' accessories? This is the question that matters. If these people are as willing to invest time, affection, effort and involvement in their children as they are money...perfect! If the money is being used to fill gaps in the child-rearing portion of the experience...that's another matter entirely.

A Tri-lingual baby??? That's freakin awesome! Every child should learn at least one other language while learning English!

Isn't this an article most Americans would enjoy reading in time for the holidays, when many Ameicans are hard pressed to squeeze out gifts while living paycheck to paycheck.

Then why would you name your kid Phinneaus or Pilot Instruktor? That tells me all I need to know. They dont take parenting seriously if they did then we would not see the majority of kids names that are just plain stupid. Actors dont take life seriously they get married then divorce months later. The average is maybe 4 years. This is not all actors obviously but I think its most of them. Guy Richie said his marriage to Madonna was like a soap opera. Her kids have the awsome names of Rocco and Lordess. Perfectly normal names there I promise.

Jessica Simpson looks incredibl...y round. As tall as she is wide. That she will not be wearing Jessica Simpson brand heels certainly says something about her belief in her own line.

Where is it written that a women in her position can "ONLY" wear shoes from her own line, if she loves her own "AND" loves shoes from other designers then she has the right and the money to take her pick just like any other consumer, and rock what ever shoes she wants.

It DOES NOT mean that she has no faith in her own line, she wears items from that line, shoes, clothes, etc. all the time! If I was in her SHOES I would take my pick from my own line AND other designers too, what woman doesn't enjoy variety! (HATER)
