This is not what the BBC is reporting, so who's right? "Jailed Afghan rape victim freed with no pre-conditions" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-16003305

Gulnaz, demand political prisoner rights from the Russia, China, India, Brazil, etc; marry the rapist, divorce him the same day and get on a plane with your kid to wherever. I was raped January 21, 2007, but in spite of European ethics and Geneva conventions, this crime has yet to be recognized. Although Afghanistan’s law would seem barbaric it is nothing compared to US/UK/EU barbarism.

Obviously, the US needs to send another 50,000 _troops to Afghanistan to stop the Afghans from doing this sort of thing. I sympathize with the woman's _unfortunate situation as much as anyone here, believe me. But I made my _sarcastic lead-in because I have seen exactly this kind of argument used as a justification for the US _military presence in Afghanistan. You don't change a culture by _invading and _militarily occupying another country, however _cruel and _inhumane some aspects of that culture may seem....

Sick, sick, culture. Women are objects there, wrapped in the dark. No face. No rights.

Maybe one of the Muslims out there in internet-land can answer this question:

Why do many of your fellow Muslims treat their women like crap? Didn't men travel through their mother's birth canal when born? Do men treat their own mothers in such a disgusting way - even their sitting there in a burka shows utter contempt for the female of the species. Can hardly tell if this is a person. I'm not saying that many of my fellow Christians don't mistreat their women in some fashion - but this is utterly unacceptable and not worthy of any person that claims to honor God - by mistreating the females of mankind, that He created, in such a contemptuous manner.

"Can hardly tell if this is a person." I agree. The poor woman on this article photo looks like a lampshade. These women are property, simply "channels" for bringing forth more men. And pleasuring them.

I'll tell you why. In a place where resources are so limited, it's every man for himself. Women are an afterthought, and are treated as such.

Being forced to marry her rapist in exchange for a 'pardon' for a crime that SHE did not commit! Barbarians! Sick, twisted, backward culture. The victim is being 'freed' from one prison and forced into another by being made to 'marry' her attacker. Such 'marriages' are not of God and may her attacker and other such monsters go straight to Hell when they die. Demons.

Thank you God that I was not born into this culture. I long ago would have been imprisoned or killed for speaking my mind. I am thankful for the freedom I am afforded today.
02:15 PM on 12/02/2011
God ain't the one to thank. As sure as you find this abhorrent, had you been born in Afghanistan or Indonesia or Sudan, you'd be a Muslim, and you'd likewise thank Allah that you're not an infidel living a hedonistic Western lifestyle. The only freedom religion affords is when you abandon it completely.

You are entitled to your opinion and your belief, or lack thereof. However, go ask the women being imprisoned and abused and ask them whether they would rather live in America or Afghanistan. That is if you could even get a truthful answer from them since they live in fear of retribution.

And for those Christians that say this is a problem exclusive to the Muslims, heed the words of Paul to Timothy (1 Timothy, Chapter 2, Versus 8-15):

8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

So, while this is abhorrent to see that our troops are propping up a culture / regime that allows such to happen to women in their nation, those who are posting in this thread about the supposed superiority of their Christian belief over Islam need to look to their own scriptures.

I think anyone who believes their religion superior to all others is either brainwashed or lives under a rock. I also think anyone who abides by a book written over a thousand years ago wouldn't allow a surgeon to touch them if that surgeon professed to using a medical text from the same period.

Yes, and Paul was a misogynist and probably a deeply repressed gay man who had no benefit of science. the inerrant word of God? probably not. the letter has been changed alot since it was originally written.

If the story of Adam and Eve were true, and I don't think it is, but if it were, you would see that Eve was created from one of Adam's ribs to stand beside, not in subjugation.

Bin Ladin is dead. The reason for invading that forsaken stink hole is fulfilled. The sooner President Obama brings our soldiers home, the better, and it's high time to cut off their funding too. The money would be better spent stirring up American dust on American dirt roads.

Just saw the news about this case. The girl is not urged to marry the rapist. She is going to be hidden in a safe place. As tragic as this case, it makes wonder what kind of nation building is taken place there.

Israel's foreign minister announced Iran has been displaced as #1 enemy of Israel with....drum roll..... Pakistan.

That means Israel_very much wants our troops to stay on the Pakistan border - and if you listen closely - you'll hear a huge PR campaign being rolled out: "get those loose nukes". Of course, there aren't any loose nukes in Pakistan - but there COULD BE. So, the game is - pre emptive.

The Atlantic Magazine - the "moderate neocons_" rolled out this propaganda mission last month. Since that one article, CNN can't stop talking about it and it also penetrated the Republican debates. Since that article was published with hoopla, the General Jones Pakistan "regime change" memo leaked and we attacked their military on the border.

No accidents on this one...

nice job karzai... sigh. no wonder obama wanted the other guy in their 2010 elections. karzai does'nt represent social progress, he is as stagnant as a bigoted tea partyist.

the lives of our soldiers have been squandered. this is the, "democracy," we have been fighting for... an imbalanced civil establsihment that's infused with the same tribal corruption that birthed the taliban and will welcome it back once the invaders have been, "repelled."

For all the good Christians,, Jesus told us that we would be judged by how we treat the least among us. From the Nanking Massacre to the Rwandan genocide, we as the supposed leader of the free world need to shine a bright light on these kinds of injustices. If we really desire an end to war and the skeptic in me says we don't, ( Too much money to be made for the 1%.) We need to increase are activities/money/resources on the social justice front. One of the best places to start would be right here at home.
