Anderson Cooper: Ed Schultz Is 'Silly' For Attacking Me Over GQ Article (VIDEO)

Anderson Cooper

First Posted: 12/03/11 04:57 PM ET Updated: 12/04/11 01:21 PM ET

Anderson Cooper ripped into Ed Schultz on his Friday show, putting his MSNBC rival on his Ridiculist for some comments Schultz made about him earlier in the week.

After being named one of GQ's "Least Influential People Alive," Schultz took to his radio show on Thursday and denounced the choice. He also said, "I know that Anderson Cooper floats around in that GQ crowd. I don't know whether he's behind it or their publicists at CNN, but let me just say I'm kicking his ass."

Not surprisingly, Cooper took umbrage at this contention. After saying he thinks cable news feuds are "stupid," he proceeded to embark on a monologue studded with casual viciousness about Schultz. He said he didn't even know who Schultz was, except that "I'm told he yells a lot, and I know he works at MSNBC and I know he's moved around in various time slots." He also replayed the comments Schultz made about Laura Ingraham that got him suspended, saying, "Mr. Schultz has a pretty thin skin for someone who goes around calling people sluts."

Then he played the "kicking his ass comments," and reacted by spluttering, "What? Here I am just living my life doing my thing, and this person I don't even know says this." He also mocked the notion that he has any sway over GQ's editorial decisions.

WATCH:

Cooper and Schultz now go head-to-head at 8 PM every night — so how are they doing? Below, see the latest cable news ratings.

I"m not a fan of either talking head or their socialist networks that have collectively, about a dozen viewers. But Ed Schultz is one large anal cyst and would look great 6 feet under a frozen Wisconsin lake.

Don't waste your breath, Mr. Cooper. Ed Schultz is on MSNBC, which averages four viewers a day. That should be punishment enough.

Cooper, you are a nice guy, but like most of CNN, you put me to sleep....zzzzzzzzzzz The reason why you claim you never heard of Ed Schultz, is because not like you, you goes to fight the battles of the working class, for the working class and against the 1%. Does he yells? Well yes, at times when needed. Do you ever yell? Or do you continue to be the boring anchorman that you are?

Well played, Anderson Cooper. Mother Vanderbilt is proud of you and will allow your trust fund to continue.

Another example of the reporters becoming the story.

We need another Walter Cronkite.

He would never have participated in such a petty exchange.

Cooper and Shultz should be ashamed of themselves.

He should be flattered to be snubbed by anything called "Gentleman's Quarterly." Sniff sniff, nose in air, project aura of superficiality and boredom with the "little people."

While I share Cooper's assessment of Schultz, his comments are petty, vain and egotistical.

Ed may be over the top sometimes, but he was the first TV personality to cover the issues in Wisconsin, Ohio and OWS in depth. He has provided consistent coverage of many important issues and I, for one, am glad he's on.

Rise above, both of you. People are hurting and only grab a GQ when they can't afford TP and their 1% neighbor leaves his trash can open.

I like both of these men and think that they both offer good shows. However, Ed needs to be less thin skinned and not worry about who's list they are or aren't on. Just do a good job and you both will have viewers. With O'Reilly being #1 (supposedly) who wants to be on that list anyway!!!
