Art Basel Miami 2011: The Best Under-The-Radar Events of Sunday

What To Do At Art Basel TODAY

The story of Art Basel Miami Beach 2011 can be told through TwitPics. Yes, there was art -- check out this Mr. Brainwash creation and this painting at Scope. Then there was the madness on the periphery. Here's Daphne Guinness giving someone the bird, a Kim Kardashian lookalike contest at the Mondrian (winner!), and a Wynwood food truck complete with a stripper on a pole. As of tomorrow, all of that will be a distant memory. Use today like the chill-out room after an early nineties rave. It would be too jarring to simply reenter normal life after fours days of Basel dazzle. Here are five events to help you slowly come down off on the Basel cloud.

Do Not DisturbIf you've already made it to the must-see trifecta of satellite art fairs Pulse, Scope, and Art Miami, then head towards the Atlantic for Aqua Art. Artists fill Aqua Hotel's 43 rooms with their work, a welcomed break from the white booth set-up of the other fairs.

Fair Thee WellWith an emphasis on exploring new or underexposed art, NADA (New Art Dealers Alliance) is holding court at the Deauville. Look for the original Warhol Banana, which graced the Velvet Underground album cover.

Dibs on RibsThe Parisian club that hosted a pop-up nightclub in the Florida Room and a cabaret karaoke at the Shelborne is also hosting a Lazy Sunday BBQ at the Standard. The Misshapes will perform the Le Baron close-out party. Invite only.

So Hard to Say GoodbyeEvery year after at the Winter Music Conference and Ultra, Overthrow hosts the annual Hard 2 Leave party. This year, they're throwing one for Basel at the downtown strip club, Goldrush. There will be DJ sets by Craze, Ninjasonik, Tamara Sky, Troy Kurtz, and Caligula -- oh, and dancing naked ladies.

Back to PrisonIf you missed Penguin Prison at Basel Castle last night, you still have a chance to see the New York electro-pop act at the Perrier-sponsored Spotify lounge at Ricochet tonight -- that is if you've received an invitation.
