Madonna At Super Bowl: NBC Announces Singer Will Perform At Halftime Of Super Bowl

Madonna Super Bowl Halftime Nbc

12/ 4/11 11:30 PM ET   AP

NEW YORK — The Material Girl will be taking the stage on football's biggest night.

Madonna, who has sold more than 300 million records, will perform at halftime of the Super Bowl in Indianapolis. The NFL and NBC announced Sunday during the Detroit-New Orleans game that the Grammy Award-winning singer will highlight the show at Lucas Oil Stadium on Feb. 5.

The show is the most-watched musical event of the year, with more than 162 million in the U.S. tuning in to see The Black Eyed Peas' performance with Slash and Usher in Dallas at halftime of Green Bay's Super Bowl win over Pittsburgh last February.

Madonna, a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, will join such acts as Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Prince, U2, Paul McCartney, The Who and the Rolling Stones to perform during recent Super Bowls. She will collaborate with a team from Cirque du Soleil, choreographer Jamie King, and artists from Moment Factory.

Madonna, currently in the studio working on a new album, has a new film "W.E." which she directed, wrote and produced and will open nationally two days before the NFL's signature event.

The Super Bowl and halftime show, sponsored by Bridgestone Americas, will be broadcast worldwide on NBC.

I'd be good with just a marching band and a Blue Angels flyover.

I remember that one. As a kid I thought it was fun. The hundreds of people on the field dancing in step, how much better can it get?

I'm surprised she hasn't done it before to be honest. I don't know anyone who watches the halftime show anyway. The football fans don't care about the halftime show, and it gets the people who don't care about the game to watch.

I dam well don't want to see Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, Eminem, or Jay Z or Kanye West anyway they went with someone who has worldwide appeal as well as older established, don't care for Nikki Minaj either Madonna needs to leave her asz home, maybe Lourdes will join Madonna on stage.

Geez, all yall hatin and don't know who the teams will be after watching the Pack play the Giants yesterday, we probably will have a fluke bowl, anyway leave Madonna alone, she's in the Obama age generation, I know how much you Obama lovin liberals are, better her than GaGa, what makes yall think a woman my age of 40 whats to see these young tarts like Perry, Gaga, Rihanna over the stage or that dam Britney who are all clones of the original don't want to see wrinkly old men from the 1960s as well but this is the most talked about half-time show ever, that's what madonna does get people talking positive or negative, don't watch it if you don't want to but I will watch it.

A 12 year old would have no idea who Madonna is, nor know any of her songs.

Honestly, who books these things??

It's like when you were a kid and your Mom picked out your clothes. She loved them and you thought you looked hideous in them and realized that your Mom had no taste in clothes.

Why not just book Sha-Na-Na and get it over with!
