Dan Quayle Endorsing Mitt Romney For President

Dan Quayle Mitt Romney

KASIE HUNT   12/ 5/11 11:44 PM ET   AP

WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Dan Quayle is endorsing Mitt Romney for president, Republican officials told The Associated Press Monday.

Quayle plans to announce his support for the former Massachusetts governor Tuesday afternoon at an event in Paradise Valley, Ariz., where Quayle has a home.

Quayle served as vice president under President George H.W. Bush. He was a House member from Indiana for two terms and a U.S. senator.

Quayle has largely stayed out of the national political spotlight in recent years, though he did mount an unsuccessful presidential bid in 2000. A series of gaffes during his vice presidency made him the subject of late night comedians' punch lines.

His endorsement helps illustrate establishment GOP backing for Romney, who has been trying to consolidate support among party stalwarts despite repeated challenges from conservative alternatives. The latest, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, has been leading in polls both nationally and in critical early states.

Quayle served under Bush, who met with Romney last week at his Houston home. The elder Bush did not offer his endorsement.

Quayle's son, Rep. Ben Quayle, was elected to the House of Representatives in 2010.

A GOP official familiar with Quayle's thinking says the former vice president is backing Romney because he views Romney as the most credible candidate in the race. The official requested anonymity to discuss Quayle's endorsement ahead of the official announcement.

It's about time Dan!!! I've been waiting with baited breath for months and months; now I can finally sleep at night. OH, but don't forget to spell Romney with an "E" - i.e. Romnee ...

Dear Dan,

It's spelled "Romney, not "Romneye." Stick with the rule 'When in doubt, lose the last e' and you'll do fine.

Bestest,

Really? Given their shared penchant for saying very silly things, I would have thought Quayle to be a Perry supporter.

Dan Quayle endorsing Mitt Romney! Shame on Dan. "I knew John Kennedy, the world loved John Kennedy. Dan and Mitt are No Jack." President Obama is another John Kennedy.

Huffington Post sure attracts lots of far lefties here.
Romney is by far the most experienced candidate in either party to deal with our two largest problems, private sector jobs creation and cutting government spending. He's forgotten more about economics than Obama knows blending conservatism with private, public, and non profit experience.

The fact Quayle is wise enough to recognize Romney as the best candidate demonstrates he's smarter than you guys think, actually smarter than you guys entirely.

Tell me exactly how he knows more about economics than Obama. Being a CEO or whatever he was is not the same as advanced course work in macroeconomics. Macroeconomics is much more complex than cutting a budget, which any run of the mill CEO can do. And please, Quayle and lots of people are more famous, but smarter? I don't think so.

You had better check a little deeper into Mitt's business dealings. He maximized profits in part by firing workers. Profits over jobs? Isn't that exactly what we're dealing with today?

Well, if he can get the competent Dan Quayle to endorse him, who can stop him now????

I personally want Mitt to be the nominee for the Republicans, (though I will not vote for him) because I would simply love to see the evangelicals placed in a position to vote for a person who they call a cultist or vote for a Black man.

That would be a good thing to see; Evangelicals supporting a person of Mormon heritage. Another good thing to see is if Gingrich gets the nomination, watching all those "family values" voters be forced to over-look the cheater of at least 2 wives (maybe a 3rd), who was endorsed by another cheater (Herman Cain will endorse soon) and was called to the House Floor for, you guessed it.......LYING. The comedy never ends.
