Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich fired back on Monday to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's suggestion that she could reveal information about him "when the time is right" because she once served on a committee that investigated him for ethics violations.

"First of all, I want to thank Speaker Pelosi for what I regard as an early Christmas gift," he said at a press conference in New York.

"Well, if she suggested that she's going to use material that she developed when she was on the ethics committee, that is a fundamental violation of the rules of the House and I would hope that members would immediately file charges against her the second she does it," he continued. "I think it shows you how capriciously political that committee was when she was on it."

Pelosi told Talking Points Memo that she was very familiar with his record from her time serving on the Ethics Committee investigating him.

"One of these days we'll have a conversation about Newt Gingrich," she said in an interview published Monday. "I know a lot about him. I served on the investigative committee that investigated him, four of us locked in a room in an undisclosed location for a year. A thousand pages of his stuff."

Drew Hammill, Pelosi's press secretary, tweeted on Monday that she "was clearly referring to the extensive amount of information that is in the public record."

The House voted in 1997 to reprimand Gingrich with an unprecedented $300,000 sanction. Pelosi, however, wanted him to be censured.

Pelosi and Gingrich, who both served as speakers of the House, appeared together in a 2008 ad urging action on climate change. Gingrich recently called the ad "the dumbest single thing I've done in recent years."

This article has been edited to clarify Pelosi's remarks about Gingrich.

Newt was in trouble for the airing of the commercial about global warming he made with Pelosi and now he may be successful at turning the tables and convincing conservatives the two are longstanding culture war enemies, as conservatives expect. After all, the GOP base loathes Rep. Nancy Pelosi and everything she stands for, whatever that is? Newt seems really frazzled when he made the announcement and Ms.  Read More...

We KNOW all about Newt. We know all about Obama. At this point Newt served his "time" he is fully vetted despite what Nancy claims she has., 84 charges and 83 tossed out. The GOP took him out as they should have. Now he is back, vetted, and ready to take on Obama. Independents in swing states are soured on their Hope and Change man as am I. I don't buy extended Warranties because they are sold based on fear. Obama is already running a fear campaign. Does Newt REALLY want us to drink poisonous water? REALLY? Does ANYONE except for some radicals?

More than that he was instrumental in moving Clinton to the center and get Welfare reform. I liked Clinton and supported him twice. More vigorously the second time around. Lewinsky didn't bother me if it did not bother Hillary. I supported Hillary and voted for Obama. I wish I could take back that vote. Mc Cain was a disaster. I did not mind Palin because she came from nothing and beat the system and members of her own party. But I got sucked in by Hope and change and all the Divine like echo at his speeches and his great oratory skill.

If only Pelosi would be as concerned with under-the-radar dealings of the Obama administration with entities like Solyndra. Gee, wonder why that might be?

"I think it shows you how capriciously political that committee was when she was on it." oh thats right its only wrong when the opposition does it. thats why they call it politics. the idea (sadly by todays standards) is to find an opponents indiscretions weaknesses failures and short comings and expose them in hope of winning the election or particular point of view. it always amazes me when either side accuses the other when they themselves are guilty of committing the very same offense. if we were somehow to remove this "selective vision" from both parties wed have no political system left. truth honesty and the american way. wheres superman when we really need him...??

This lady has made mega bucks off insider deals. She really shouldn't open her mouth about anyone in D.C. She acted so dumb when asked about her family receiving money off the Solyndra scandal and insider trading. She is such a marvelous liar...

I see Newt as the gift that keeps on giving and hope he is the nominee, especially after his comment about the poor(ghetto) who have no example of people who are working . RUN NEWT RUN!

It is astonishing how this thread is being avoided by the Left. Pelosi's statement is so far out there that even the Libs are staying away from this one.

Oh yes, CLEARLY. I'm so sick of people on both sides of the isle just choosing to ignore people with half a brain, blatantly lie and then just leave it at that. You'd have to be a complete id.iot to believe that tweet.
10:04 AM on 12/08/2011
yes, we believe you Mr. Hammill......
Information in the "public record".....that's available to the public...that's what Pelosi is going to share with the nation to try and bring down Newt.
Brilliant

Second attempt to describe how Pelosi, Reid and Obama are bringing to the Federal Govt. the Chicago style of (fill in the blank) Examples:
(1). Obama care passed without reading unions get exemptions-- CBO estimates huge deficits
(2). Stimulus I rescues unions, union pension funds, state govt. deficits, only provides temporary jobs, no shovel ready project-- $796 billion lost except for union bailouts
(3). Cap and Trade-- good by Coal hello skyrocketing energy costs. Makes the Greens happy.
(4). Obama's NLRB stops Boeing from relocating to right to work state--- helps unions.
(5). Financing Green Alternative energy results in Solyndra $538 million bankruptcy- taxpayer eats it. Then $16.4 of 20 million given firms friendly to Obama, and Pelosi
(6). 108 billion dollars to IMF for greek debt-- taxpayer eats it
(7) Describing moratorium on FICA payments as tax cuts. Actual result, creates deficit for Social Security immediatley for which sovereign debt increases plus interest.
(8). Rescue GE who immediately sends jobs abroad-- to bad those of you needing a job
(9). Fast and Furious where guns are sent by Federal Employees to Mexican Drug Cartels--so much for concern of citizens on the border states.
(10). Foreign Aid for gay/lesbian appreciation abroad-- pandering for gay/lesbian vote.
(11). Banning domestic exploitation of resources while China drills off Cuba and gives $3.0 billion to Brazil to deep drill offshore. -- good bye great jobs (1.2 million)
(12) delaying the Sands Pipeline which is still in jeopardy-- bye 20,000 jobs..

I'm really surprised that Pelosi backtracked on her threat of blackmail. Considering nobody believes it is beyond her to do such a thing, it's pretty surprising.
