Colorado Gives Day Is Back To Raise Donations For Your Favorite Charities

12/06/2011 02:19 pm ET | Updated Dec 07, 2011

The holidays are all about giving, and we don't necessarily mean gift wrapping. We mean the kind that warmed the Grinch's two-sizes-too-small heart and sent the ghost of Jacob Marley after Scrooge to remind him that mankind is our business.

Today is Colorado Gives Day--the perfect day to give to a favorite charity or cause that directly supports the local community. A $300,000 FirstBank Incentive Fund adds extra oomph to every tax deductible donation made before the clock strikes midnight, 100 percent of which goes to charity. There are literally hundreds of Colorado organizations to choose from, and the incentive fund will be spread proportionally among them.

UPDATE:

The Community First Foundation is extending Colorado Gives Day through noon Dec. 7 due to connectivity problems resulting from high traffic on the GivingFirst.org site.

EARLIER:

Last year the goal was to raise $1 million which the organizer, Community First Foundation, exceeded by $7.4 million.

This year, there is no goal.

"We'd like to raise more than $8.4 million and make December 6 the biggest day of giving in the state," Communications Manager for the Community First Foundation Caitlin Jenney told the Daily Camera.

We've listed just a few Colorado-based organizations to inspire your generosity today, but the full list of participants can be found here.
