Patrick J. Sullivan Jr.: Former Sheriff Detained In Namesake Detention Facility Raises Questions About City Building Names

Posted: Updated:

LITTLETON, Colo. -- County commissioners in a Denver suburb will consider a new policy prohibiting naming buildings, parks or streets after someone who's still alive following the incarceration of a sheriff in a jail named after him.

Arapahoe County Commissioner Rod Bockenfeld says the county owes it to residents to revisit past practices for naming buildings because of last week's arrest of Patrick J. Sullivan Jr.

Sullivan was the county's sheriff from 1983 to 2002 and is being held in the detention center named in his honor on drug, attempting to influence a public servant and prostitute solicitation charges.

County spokeswoman Haley McKean says there is no immediate move to rename the jail. She says such a decision would follow a change in naming policy after the January study session.
