Sarah Jessica Parker: Kids Can Complicate A Marriage

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick may have been married for 14 years and have three adorable children, but the "New Year's Eve" actress confesses that she didn't always dream of marriage and babies.

"It wasn't that I didn't want it. I just wasn't one of those girls who dreamt of her wedding day and the birth of her first child," she told the Telegraph's Stella magazine.

It may not have been the dream, but it's now her life -- and a busy one at that. But despite the fact that most women also juggle a career and family, the magazine wanted to know if she wasn't working for financial reasons, then why does she work at all?

"For me it has been hard to say no [to work]. I wanted a family but before I had a family I was a career person," she explained. "I've tried to marry those two things and sometimes it is successful and sometimes it is not."

But she's not without help, besides the nannies she employs, there's her husband who she says does a lot for family -- including shopping and cooking for everyone.

Still her marriage hasn't been perfect and she admits to the magazine that "kids can really distract you from your relationship."

"Maybe in good ways and bad ways," she continued. "It's important to have all eyes on all parts of the relationship."

The 46-year-old actress explains that she and Broderick have been together for 20 years and she expects that they'll have both good and bad days.

"That's a marriage. That's a relationship. That's a friendship, even -- relationships outside the marriage run the same course," she explained. "If you're in it for the long haul and you want meaningful relationships you are going to go through lots of different periods."

It's lovely to read about a couple in the limelight who have the same challenges as everyone else. Great that they manage to juggle it all with what life throws at them. Wishing them a further 20years!

Duh!!!! So, whats she trying to promote or get in the limelight for now? because THIS isn't going to help here ANY!

Nannies or not its still a LOT of work for Sarah to film and come home to the children and husband. No matter how much help she gets its stressful to raise 3 children and keep your husband happy.

Oh pluuleez! you are making exucses for someone who HAS all the ability and people around her to make everything EASY, unlike the rest of us. And if she can't pleasse her husband because the nanny didnt put the kids to bed, well she's has bigger issues then just that. Oh wait... she does already!

I have raised my kids without the help of a mother. I refuse to change another diaper, I won't chase after kids to make sure they have mittens or boots. No more wiping noses and no more bathing kids. I am retired and I want my kids to make sure I am ok now.

Got that right! Too vain to take on a pregnancy which would "ruin' her body and her lifestyle, being preggie. No joke.. News Flash.. Sarah.........having and raising kids is NOT a walk in the park, but at least she has all the $$$$ available to her for nannies, etc.. and nursemaids, etc. etc. Us poor other schmucks out here had to do it on our own.. Go figure.

Ever think that, seeing there is a big age difference between her son and the twins, that perhaps she wasn't able to carry a child to term?? No, I didn't think so. You don't know her medical history, and you don't have the right to make assumptions like that. and, um...News Flash! If being able to give birth makes you feel like a better person than Sarah, I have 2 words for you...Casey Anthony. Enough said.

Celebreties want kids as possessions. Hire nannies to raise them so they can still have their own life. Believe me, if you have 3 kids (or any) and you do your own cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc... you don't have time to 'work'.

Jessica Parker should be thankful she is not Nadia Suleman, (Octomom).

Love her honesty. Parenting is much more difficult for some of us. I'm one of those people. I love my boys. I have always said that being a parent has been the hardest thing I have ever done. She isn't looking for pity, she is just being honest. Good for her.

The youngest two are twins, adopted.

They weren't adopted-they were carried by a surrogate.

The 2 little girls are not adopted. She tried to get pregnant for several years after her son was born, and was not successful. They used a surrogate. for the 2 little girls.

I think kids complicate a divorce more than a marriage.

Sad, you have all that filthy money and your unhappy with what you have created in and with your life. Perhaps the title should read " Are You Fit To Be A Parent"

She never said she was unhappy, she actually said she wanted afamily, she just said it was hard and it is. Something that requires work and effort many times makes it very worthwhile but again still hard. Marriage and family is not a walk in the park, just some are offended when a person says that. ------A Man 41yrs married with two daughters, long out of the house being successful in life, as they should be. My wife and I put in the effort for it to be so. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. No nannies to help me either but a few baby sitters.

She never said that??? She merely painted an honest look at life with 3 kids while still working. And that it does affect the relationship with her husband. Anyone who says otherwise is being dishonest anyway. She has bragged about 'James Wilke' year after year and how thrilled both she and her husband are with him. She never said she regretted having the kids but having twins in addition to James has got to be a lot to handle and she seems appropriately consumed with it all.
